Rainey Dawn Others are correct when they say they took great effort to make this film look good - and it does, very beautiful! NO misuse of CGI here - well done! I personally love these types of films - it's not 100% all action... instead it is story driven. This story appealed to me... It is of a young man named Will Shepherd - who will avenge his father and slay the dragon! I love Knights/Paladins, Dragons and Medieval Themes - so this movie is right up my alleyway! I'd love to own a copy of this one for frequent viewings - I've enjoyed it that much!!9.5/10
pkomoro Good story line albeit a predictable. Acting was good. Directing was very good. Good cast, great music. Special effects were decent for not being a big-budget blockbuster. Overall the movie was very well executed. There is a "sequel" to this movie (Curse of the Dragon Slayer), although it has nothing to do with this movie. The "sequel" is fun to watch also, but very different movie altogether. Many big-budget movies of this genre seem to be overdone. Solid character development and good story line here, without the overdone feel. Casting was well done also. Fight scene choreography was OK, but not perfect. The only critique I'd offer is that sometimes the clothing and armor looked too new.Good movie. Recommended.
TheLittleSongbird There are only two redeeming qualities here, some good scenery and Nicole Posner's beauty. The rest is trash, with some really dire acting going on. Richard McWilliams' inexperience comes through loud and clear, he is stiff throughout and acts and sounds intoxicated and bored. The special effects look unfinished and cheap, the dragon in particular looks as though it was lifted out of a very badly rendered cartoon. It is also not very menacing and doesn't have much of a personality, while the music is heavy-handed and lacking in any kind of imagination. The photography and editing is repetitive and in the final battle amateurishly frenzied, speaking of the final battle, that was unexciting in the extreme and almost anti-climatic. There was a decent idea somewhere, but that never comes through in the storytelling which is so predictable and tedious it borders on painful. It is definitely best not to take the dialogue too seriously, because constantly it is horrendously stilted and banal with unintentional cheesiness. There's nothing interesting about the characters, the whole movie is riddled with clichés and the characters themselves are just flat and annoying. The amateurish direction doesn't help in the slightest either. Overall, apart from the scenery and Posner Dawn of the Dragonslayer was just awful. 2/10 Bethany Cox
Brad Manning The lowest rating is 1 (awful) which this film IS NOT... I give it a 2 rating as it's a margin better than awful. The dragon itself was a "pretty" looking dragon but the effects spoilt it. As one other reviewer mentions it looks like a low budget video game style of graphics were used. The acting was horrible and cringe-worthy. The final sword fight was like watching two teenagers practising a school-play in their back garden... "This is the part were you fall down..." But the overall feel of this film was drawn out and uninteresting. There should have been a message from the writer to begin with to advise the viewer not to bother engaging with the story as it'll be wasted brain cells.
