atinder For me this took a really long time to getting going, it's until about 45 minutes before, it actually get going.A couple who seemed have broken before going Cabin in woods with friendsSo place it going will awkward for all their Friends, which to talk about 92 % of the movie, Which was very boring. They even wasted time of showing us, how bored they were, soon they play the Dead Mary game, well instead of the Bloody Mary , which was about hour into the movie. There one decent thing happen in this movie, I we don't even get to see the first attack. We only get the aftermath of the Friends dead who was killed in woods at night and then he has been turned into something.Soon the rest of the friend, wondering, who else as changed or hiding under the human skin. It's Wasn't really made clear what was stalking them, or hunting, sit here friends turn on one and other. It's trying to Evil dead wannabe with Bloody Mary twist , It didn't work at all.2 out of 10
pantagruella I am sure this film disappointed a lot of people but it was right up my street, as we say. A group of young friends meeting death one by one in the woods is a cheap enough project. The strength here was in the slow naturalistic build and the good acting. You have time to work out the tensions within the group, aspects of their character, past history. The photography is good and lazy discourses should remind many of the days when time wasn't so precious. The induction of evil into the group is passed off quite smoothly. Thereafter there is a satisfying logic to the actions and reactions. I know some people are bothered by other Mary tales as if they are cheated out of something. There's no witch in Blair Witch and there's no Ripper in Ripper. Titles aren't labels on jam jars or guarantees. Some worried that this isn't Evil Dead but that's the last film I want to see.
levismits Wow, this movie gets a lot of crap on IMDb and I think I know why. This is an Indie production that wasn't made on a five million dollar budget. Kids today are known for having the attention spans of four year olds. This is really sad cuz Dead Mary doesn't cater to these kids. Dead Mary is slow and the director obviously took his time to get the viewer familiar with the characters (you'll have to admit, for a horror flick, the character development is pretty deep)I love the cinematography, the way the movie was shot, the film that was used, the colors that were brought out during the editing. It all makes this little horror flick kinda special. It was made by people who genuinely wanted to create something new (instead of rebooting old horror franchises like all the big studios do nowadays). The story was okay and even though the whole 'dead Mary curse' isn't thoroughly explained by the filmmaker, yet, we are given enough clues to try to come up with an explanation of our own.A horror movie made by people who are obviously fans of the genre and a nice addition to my collection of 'twenty-somethings-getting-killed-in- cabins-in-the-woods' DVDS.
vipers222 Dead Mary seems to be a horror movie that misses at every attempt that a horror movie shoots for. First it is very formulaic: a bunch of young people go to a remote cabin where something supernatural will start hunting them. Dead Mary actually spends time in the beginning trying to give you the back stories on these individuals that are meeting for the weekend. The purpose of this you would suspect is so that you get some intrigue on the characters actions, add to the paranoia, advance a plot, or perhaps simply gain some empathy for the characters. By the end of the movie you will realize none of these things happened and thus it was a pointless waste of time. So you might say: "So what, it is a schlocky horror movie. Who cares about plot, character development, etc…?" To that I say I can enjoy a silly B-movie horror movie as much as the next guy. But what is it that fans of, let's say, Friday the 13th want in a movie? I would break it down to things such as: Good special effects, creative kills, scares, maybe a few laughs, and if all else fails some T&A. Dead Mary fails to provide any of these things.I gave Dead Mary 2 out of 10. In hind sight this might be a little low because the acting wasn't particularly bad and the technical aspects of the film were OK. I guess I rate it so low because there is nothing to speak for in its favor. Often there are bad movies where you say: "The movie really stunk, but there is this one scene..." Not true of Dead Mary. You can go through your whole life without seeing the movie and not have missed anything.
