FlashCallahan Three girls carefree Med holiday morphs into a picturesque nightmare over the gruelling course of one terrifying night at sea. It began as a fun night out on the town, but after meeting three lads in a nearby club, the girls make the fateful mistake of joining the men for a hedonistic party at sea. Unwisely climbing aboard the borrowed yacht with the men as the sexual tension increases, the girls realise that their misstep could very well be their last after a freak accident claims the life of one, and the argument over how to handle the situation leads to a vicious struggle for survival........Sex with strangers can kill!!!!!! That's the fundamental message of this movie, which becomes increasingly mundane after every viewing. The titular act is explained, and done during the firsts act of the movie, which still holds up. It's fun, the characters are likable, and it's lovely to look at.But it soon goes downhill from there. The characters turn into completely different people, the helpless become little Rambos, the lads become Patrick Bateman-esque, and because of this, it all becomes just too unbelievable, and it has such a wonderful set up.It's looks as though the writer has tried to update Dead Calm for the meta generation, but after a while gave up and tried to turn it into a horror movie. It doesn't work, and despite the brilliant cast, the feeling of entrapment and claustrophobia that you would expect from a movie like this, just isn't there.A wasted opportunity.
Raul Faust A group of young people go to a trip in a boat and many of them are going to die. At first sight we might think it's gonna be a predictable and corny thriller, but this one is an exception to this rule. The story is very plausible and sometimes it reminds me of "House of 9"-- a great picture. I don't know how, but the filmmakers managed this film so well that you get extremely entertained in the drama. Oh, and I have to mention that this movie, in my opinion, is much more a drama than a thriller; be ready to watch a sad story. The actors are believable even thought they are unknown and working for a small company-- they act better than many mainstream actors. My only (and big) complaint is the unnecessary exposed sex scene, which didn't need to be that hot or real. It gets embarrassing to watch such movie with your parents in a room right in front of yours-- isn't my case. IMDb's rating for this title is UNDERRATED and should be fixed as soon as possible, otherwise it's going to unfairly put it in the same list as the other horrible films out there.
the dead parrot's cat the dead cat's parrot It does contain spoilers....If you are looking for a good film.... This is not it. The idea of some guys with some girls on a boat out on the sea, doing drugs, 'partying' and then an accident happening and things getting out of hand while everybody is in outer space.... It's not a bad idea. This film however is just senseless. It shows almost zero insight in human behaviour.... I really don't feel like commenting more about it, just would like to point out that it is a disappointing film. And I didn't even expect much from it. It began OK, until the actual Donkey Punch, from there it just started to become more and more dreadful. It could've been better in many ways, almost all. Though the acting of the female actors was OK (Jaime Winstone was also good in Dead Set) and some of the guys weren't all that bad either. The problem is the storyline. Perhaps next time involve a decent psychologist in the writing process.... Or just someone with common sense. "Common sense is not so common", presumably said by Voltaire. Hence the fact there are so many mediocre or worse films. Anyways I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Not to be an ass really. I wish the writers the best of luck and hope they will do better than this in the future.
ajs-10 A friend of mine said he was going to watch this one when it aired on TV recently and so I decided I'd record it and give it a viewing. Being of a much greater age than my pal it's not the kind of film I would usually choose to watch, but I thought I'd give it a chance anyway.A group of three teenage girls, Lisa, Tammi and Kim, are on holiday in Mallorca. They all agree it's to be a girls' only weekend, but that's before they meet the boys, Sean, Bluey and Josh. They find out that the boys are in charge of a yacht in the harbour and the girls agree to go back with them where they meet Marcus, the engineer. With drink flowing, they soon start to turn the music up, but they don't want to be reported to the harbour master so they decide to go out to sea. All seems to be going well when Bluey, a DJ, brings out the drugs. These relax everyone and the conversation soon turns to sexual practises, one of which being the Donkey Punch of the title. One thing leads to another and as the sun sets two of the girls are making out with three of the boys in the cabin. But things are about to go disastrously wrong when one of their number is killed accidentally at the hand of another. Events now take a drastic turn as they desperately try to cover up this mistake. I won't say any more as I don't want to give too much away.Although there is a rather claustrophobic feel to this film, I found myself slowly drawn in to the drama as it unfolded. Quite well made with a plot that moves along quite rapidly, although I did find the beginning very clichéd. Good performances all round, particularly from Sian Breckin as Lisa and Nichola Burley as Tammi. Honourable mentions also go to Robert Boulter as Sean, Tom Burke as Bluey, Julian Morris as Josh, Jay Taylor as Marcus and Jaime Winstone (daughter of actor Ray Winstone) as Kim.As I said, I was quite easily drawn into the drama of this piece, so that part worked quite well. Unfortunately other parts did not work for me. I found it hard to believe that the owners of the yacht would leave it in the hands of these young men without anybody keeping an eye on them. Also, once the death had occurred, the events that followed seemed a little bit too far beyond reason for me. I guess what we learn from this is that there are ALWAYS consequences for your actions. There is quite a lot of violence, some gore, scenes of sexual violence and drug taking. If that's your bag, then go for it! For me, it didn't really work so I can't really recommend it.My score: 5.7/10
