Reviews

pokershaun After looking at the review overall score I was somewhat doubting whether to watch this film but I decided to give it a shot and make my own mind up..... not disappointed. It's not a film that will give you all the answers you want but it's certainly a film that will make you guess what's coming next. It's not a gore fest or typical horror, more like a twilight-zone-esque type film....I'm not going to say much as the beauty in the film is not knowing..... just give it a try and maybe, like me, you won't be disappointed... whatever you do though, don't blink.
FlashCallahan Ten people arrive at a secluded mountain resort to find it completely deserted. With no gas for the return trip, the visitors are forced to stay and investigate the mystery surrounding the abandoned lodge........It starts off all well and good, just like any other horror mystery. We have a gang of people whom some of are recognisable from days of glory past, and some you vaguely remember from a guest appearance from some long forgotten TV show. And this is the norm for horror films, the more famous you are, the more likely you'll survive, unless you put in a special guest appearance and leave quite early on.So the gang reach an abandoned place where it looks like the residents a have just gone out for a walk, but no, something sinister is afoot, and it's not long before the characters start to shout at each other and act strange. And that's the film basically.People disappear one minute, and are never seen again, until we are left with just one person, and no explanation.Considering the film is barely ninety minutes long, it feels like an eternity getting to the end of the film, and what vexes you when you finally come to its lethargic finale, we get nothing more than a cameo from Robert Picardo, reminding you that the last time you saw him, he was about to be assaulted amorously by a Gremlin.Which sounds more appealing than sitting through this rubbish again.
LovingMoviesSince98 So I was pondering through Netflix after watching a few episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia when I decided I was in the mood for a good low-star-rated horror movie. I was going through my list that's filled with several crappy B-horror movies and I decided to watch Don't Blink. I remember adding it to my list because it had the actress who played Jenna in the U.S. version of the show, Wilfred (Fiona Gubelmann). So that's what I did.The movie was great. This is a perfect example of paranoia horror. It's almost like the stuff of nightmares. As a matter of fact, that is EXACTLY what this movie is. I can even prove it to you. When I was about eight years old, I had a dream where I was in this crowded public place with my mom. We saw from a little ways of a distance there was a red button on the wall. I was afraid to press it, not knowing what would happen. Somehow though, I managed to gain the courage to hug my mom, walk straight up to the button, and press it. Immediately after pressing the mysterious red button, I quickly spun around to see tons of passers-by carrying out with their business. My mom was nowhere in sight. I was alone. And I was scared sh**less. This movie reminded me of that nightmare and then I became intrigued. I absolutely LOVE it when horror movies do that. Remind me of personal nightmares. I can tell you all about it in my review for It Follows. True horror comes from the place we fear the most: our own imaginations. Which actually leads me up to another reason as to why I adore this movie so much.I noticed this film has a low rating on both Netflix and IMDb. I read a few of the reviews on this site to see why that is and it was exactly why I had expected it to be.One review had stated that the major flaw with this movie was the ambiguity it had left when the director's name appeared on the screen. It just had this huge build-up that kept taking its time to elaborate at a suspenseful pace that would just lead to....nothing. Questions were left unanswered as it left the ending completely open. That's the problem people have. They were never given the answers they were looking for. But if you really think about it, that's the great thing about this movie. It never explains itself. It leaves it to the imaginations of the viewers watching. I was really hoping this movie would do that...and it did!!Of course there's going to be people wanting the answers to everything. So if you're that type of person, this movie might not be your cup of tea. But if you're into a good mystery like myself, you will enjoy this movie.Rating: 9/10
amylaub-89869 So a friend suggested this movie to me (along with 4 other titles that she thought I might like), when I prompted her to recommend some good movies that were available on Netflix. I actually watched the other 4 first...to me, both the title and the cover of this movie implied that it was your ordinary, run-of- the-mill, crappy B-movie. It turns out that you can't go by looks in this case. I actually ended up enjoying this movie the best out of all 5 movies. It isn't a slasher movie, as the cover leads you to believe. There is no villain, no gore...just an unseen entity causing people, animals and bugs (even pupae!) to just vanish into the proverbial thin air. And this is why I thought the movie was decent. Despite the 1st ten minutes looking like every other teen horror movie, it takes a sudden turn and becomes utterly different. It really feels akin to a Twilight Zone episode, which of you're a fan like I am, you'll most likely get some real satisfaction from this film. Like many of the other reviewers have already stated, the only rub is the ending. I was very much hoping for some type of plausible explanation. Even if they didn't fully address the "why's" and the "how's," I wish they would have at least alluded to a couple of possibilities, then they could have left it up to you to judge which is most likely from there. Instead we were left hanging with literally no idea about what caused anything.Speaking of, did anyone else think that the cop/FBI agent was going to give the remaining character some insight as to what could have caused all of the disappearances? Especially when he told some other cops that they needed to make a quick sweep and be on their way since they didn't have a lot of time...I really felt like he knew something and REALLY wanted him to allude to whatever it was.Anyway. I enjoyed the premise, the acting, and I actually thought that there were some very funny, very well executed lines. I'd recommend this movie. It's an intriguing, entertaining watch.
