welshnew50 Not remembering what movie id sat down to , and being a moderate Vamp theme/plot fan , frostbitten was unwatchable for me past a point of no return of directorship , when a otherwise solid start of a expandable / usable plot development , turned into yet another tediously precocious self-portraying exercise in neo-nazi imitatory BS , to be blunt ... gawd, I'm sick of these kinds of 'social' scene bet/portrayal films ... the pathetic imitation of power acting on the part of our demonstrative male leads at the party reeked of American teen entrapment that we've all seen and scoffed at before , and the female leads were either obviously small and vulnerable , or 'difficult' , for the discerning neo nazi rapist wanna bes out there ... well whoopee do , aren't you guys just always unchallengeable in your time wasting self portrayals , eh?want to know why? because people aren't interested in boosting your egos, more or less. Fear is irrelevant , and does not prevent people from counter portraying, nor acting upon you ... grow up , and stop wasting our time with your smaller versions of American post wwii entrapments, there is enough of it around already.Femms out there that find such intolerable in our oh so only-the-victim-audience inevitable inferiorities when leaned over after you've left the Cinema , by oh so scary bigger trees , don't bother, with this one, just cut it down and be done with it.Need this sort of insulting people's intelligences , do we?The whole world is one big within Germany day of remembrance followed by oh so tough private rejection of such sentiment , when no one's looking , do we ?Short answer , no we don't. There is someone looking ... yourselves , and there is a word for what precocious folk like the directors of this one are - VAIN .Some skill in gloomyness , cinematographically , and a few other pluses , and I'm sure some of the later scenes mitigate some of the earlier entrapment , but movies are for watching , not corresponding psychometrically / behaviourally .
SnakesOnAnAfricanPlain After Let the Right One In, I was wary about approaching another Swedish vampire film. Surely it couldn't live up to the brilliance of that master piece. Well, it doesn't. But Frostbiten is a different kind of beast altogether. Frostbiten is a wonderful return to classical vampires. They hate garlic, don't have reflections etc. This lends itself well to the comic tone of the film. Even in a foreign language, this is instantly quotable and memorable. From lines such as "Stop throwing garden gnomes at me!" and a girl making an X rather than a crucifix, we have a film that doesn't take itself seriously, but isn't stupid either. The film does well to split up the adult world and the teen world. The teen world is basically filled with drugs and parties, lending itself as the perfect set-up for a massacre. Meanwhile, the adult world is filled with the backstory and the main plot thrust. The score and soundtrack work in perfect harmony. The film opens during the war, and the score has an eerie Gothic sound which seems as though is should be coming straight from a gramophone. The effects are perfect in my opinion. The mix of CG and make-up is almost indistinguishable. It comes across as an old classical stop-motion piece at times. The whole film was enjoyable in the same way as The Lost Boys. Fun, exciting and hilarious. Only, Frostbiten has talking dogs.
ChiefGoreMongral During the last years of WW2 a small group of SS Nazi soldiers try to escape their demise by hiding in an apparent abandoned shed in Sweden. What they do not realize is they are not alone. Several are attacked and killed while a few others survive the ordeal. Flash forward to current time where a mother and daughter are heading to the town of Norbotten where the mother is seeking a career opportunity working with a genetic specialist.Shortly after their arrival things begin to get a bit odd. People begin dying and after a hospital attendant steals some red pills only to have them stole from him by a girl about to attend a party, the town comes under attack by a gang of vampires out to suck anybody or anythings blood they can sink their teeth into.Frostbiten tries to be a comedy horror movie, not a splatstick but a horror movie with dialog that is humorous, unfortunately most of it is not funny which leads to some rather ho-hums going on in-between the horror scenes of the movie. Don't get me wrong this movie has some decent parts but the shame here is for every good part there is another part that brings the film to a screeching halt. The thing I did like about this movie is the beginning and how it sets up the story as we find out the truth about some of the characters in the movie. Its just sad to say with the humor not being funny and the story not reaching its full potential as far as what they could have done here it leads to some uneven movie viewing. It is because if this that I can only slightly recommend this to vampire and horror fans.Fans of gore will only be slightly entertained as there is a few moments of the red stuff but nothing we haven't seen before. Jugulars being ripped apart, a few guys shot in the beginning and some animal cruelty (hehe) springs to mind but nothing extremely memorable. The main Vampire does turn into a vampiric creature toward the end but even that ends up only being mediocre at best. Throuw in some slight CGI work that ranges from so-so to noticeable and I think you get the idea.In the end this movie appears to try and emulate one too many of the classic horror comedies of the past only to come off as an amateurish take on the sub-genre. If the director/writer would have just stayed to the horror stuff and not tried to add the rather unfunny dialog this could have turned out better, alas I give Frostbiten a meager: 5/10: Average Decent Horror elements not so funny comedic dialog hamper the enjoyment factor of this movie. Fans of Horror/Comedies may slightly enjoy this one as well as those into Vampires but all others may find themselves reaching for the remote.
Einherjer79 I saw this movie hoping it should be a good horror movie but it was totally crap. The acting is done by armatures and the script too. The sound in the movie couldn't been worse ( it's usually bad sound in Swedish films but this was extraordinary bad). The comedy in this film is that it is so bad so you starts to laugh because of that instead of the jokes in the film. So , don't waste or time on this one. The budget must be quite low and you can tell only after just watching a few minutes. So , if you' looking after a good Swedish horror movie , see Evil Ed instead. The soundtrack however is quite good but in the movie the music is way to loud if you compare it with the volume of the one who's talking.
