Adam Foidart Hopefully if you're watching a movie called "Hercules Against the Moon Men" you're not expecting a great, insightful art film with deep characters or grand drama and you're instead hoping to have some laughs at a goofy science fiction meets fantasy adventure film. It runs a little too long, but it's got a lot of fun things going on that will really entertain. If you watch it with some friends it's sure to create some in-jokes that you can all share together for a long time. Yes, they will probably be the most obvious jokes you can imagine (I'll get to the biggest one in a bit), but you won't care. In no way does this even remotely resemble the Greek myth and that's part of the fun. You get spike traps, monsters that pop out of nowhere for Hercules to clumsily beat up, a really random and poorly executed love plot, an evil queen set to take over the world, a lot of obvious stock footage, some fight scenes straight out of a WWE match and most grandiose of all, the revelation that all of this is cause by "the evil influence of Uranus". If that sounds like fun, you will have a good time. Don't mistake this for a good movie though, it's entertaining trash. (On DVD, August 2, 2012)
wes-connors "An alien race from the Moon lands in ancient Greece, terrorizing the nearby city of Samar, and taking the population's children as human sacrifices. If that isn't enough, the queen of Samar has made an alliance with the aliens in order to rule the world. Now it's up to Hercules to save the day and free the oppressed townspeople," according to the DVD sleeve's synopsis.Dubbed "Hercules Against the Moon Men" from the original Italian, this features Alan Steel as the titular "Hercules" - really, he's playing "Maciste" this time, but worldly studios and audiences saw Italian strongmen used interchangeably. This is a dreary series entry, with busty blonde Delia d'Alberti leading the main attractions. A long-winded third act drags it down.** Maciste e la regina di Samar (6/27/64) Giacomo Gentilomo ~ Alan Steel, Jany Clair, Anna Maria Polani, Delia d'Alberti
Boba_Fett1138 Well, to be honest the movie was not as bad as I had feared, mainly because of the reason that it had some entertainment value in it.It's obvious that this movie got made purely for entertainment and without much else intentions. The story is simple but sort of fun and adventurous. This doesn't take away anything of the fact that it's still a pretty poorly made movie. It's a bit clumsy looking, as you can often expect from an Italian genre movie like this one. In it's era many movies like this got made and you can say that the Italians sort of founded the genre in the '50's. It's all muscles and costumes, without ever giving the movie much flair but still special typical genre feeling and atmosphere.Of course it's all rather cheap looking, with lame effects and cardboard looking sets and props. It makes the movie itself also quite lame to watch at times but again, I feel that this also adds to the movie its entertainment value.I just wished they would had spend some more time on the movie its script. The movie now feels as if the movie got shot with only a halve completed script. Lots of things often don't make sense and some things feel incomplete and unfinished. It's not a very satisfying movie to watch. Especially toward the end the movie turns awkward. It starts to become more and more messy and things start to make less and less sense. You'll loose interest about halve way through the movie, which just doesn't make this a very comfortable movie to watch. It isn't completely horrible but still pretty bad nevertheless.3/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/
unbrokenmetal If you like to watch an incredibly bad movie sometimes, a cheap flick that makes you laugh or stare at the screen in disbelief, don't miss "Hercules Against the Moon Men" - originally entitled "Maciste and the Queen of Samar", but the Moon Men make it sound way more cheesy and weird! Hercules (Alan Steel) is called to the land of Samar where a clumsy breed of aliens rules, living in a cave below the Mountain of Death. The wicked queen of Samar supports them with human sacrifices, because the alien leader promised to make her more powerful than ever before. Hercules decides to help the terrified citizens. He fights the aliens and the queen, one man against an army, so he needs a cunning plan, which is... ummm... punch everybody who stands in his way! The aliens look as dangerous as walking pancakes escaped from a Flash Gordon serial, and with Mr Steel's acting abilities, it's hard to say whom he loves or hates, if he feels anger or joy - let's assume as long as there are chains to break, he probably is a happy boy. The special effects are as ridiculous as they ought to be - archive footage from volcano eruptions doesn't improve anything. Bad, terrible, enjoyable - that is, for fans of such things.
