Armand tale about luck. prey. survive. a kind of parable and, in same measure, map of a world. page from description of people out of masks. axis - Max Von Sydow as Sam, powerful god of a small hided universe, with ash of Shoah in his soul, cold, profound, enigmatic, master of strange power. so, the movie is more than a fantastic puzzle. it is a way to explore fears and games, escapes and fragile victory, need of answers - Sara -, search of real sense of things - Tomas - hope to control reality - Federico.for each - the same labyrinth. and wings of same darkness. in essence, a lot of questions, beautiful music and dark feeling at end.
hearthhrobgals I watched this movie with a very expectation as the plot was kinda similar to one of the Indian movie "Luck". However this movie didn't live upto my expectations due to poor storyline & climax. The movie started at a good pace.In fact the movie was fast paced till climax.Below are the plot holes or unresolved mystries that I observed:1)What was "Tomás" going to win after being labelled as the "luckiest man in the world"?...2)What "Federico" got by doing all these and was afterall was he blessed with luck? If not then why he was not allowing Tomás to touch him?3)Why the lady cop was 24 hours behind them? Was she the only one from the entire police department to go behind Tomas(Thief).4)It is stupid to consider the lady cop as lucky just considering the fact that she survived a car accident5)The luck games were very few and shortFinal Verdict:The Good: a) Beautiful Locations b) Camera work c) Dark look of the movie The bad: a)Script b)Average direction c)Poor dialoguesBetter watch the Indian version "LUCK" then wasting time on this Spanish movie
ccthemovieman-1 This Spanish film is a strange one, a hard one to follow story-wise, but visually striking and interesting most of the way. The fact is wasn't always easy to follow will help me want to watch this again to see if I can figure things out better. The story involves people with th ability to steal "luck" from other people and then taking it away from fellow takers. Make sense? I didn't think so. Despite the difficulty following and understanding everything, I still enjoyed this film. The DVD transfer is sharp, too, and has good sound. It's an intriguing film and, perhaps, I should have waited for a second viewing when I understood more things about the story. Suffice to say I thought enough of this film to buy it because I knew I'd be watching this multiple times.
tedg There are a few good filmmakers alive now, ones I credit. Mostly they are distributed in accidental pools of the industry, a couple in Hong Kong, a master in Amsterdam, a few passing through Hollywood it seems. Singles here and there. But there are three film communities that when I enter them, I feel as if I am entering a magical kitchen of imagemaking shared by a single family. The blood pumping between one pair of lovers, the enhanced tongue of another, the wild creative dialog about spices among a young crowd in the corner — each of these somehow providing juices I will taste. One of these kitchens is Australian, another Canadian (oh how puzzling!). But this big saucy one is Spanish, with emissaries all over the Americas. Not every Spanish film is nourishing, but when I find one that has serious ambitions, it more often than not inherits all the smells, traditions and many of the skills of that kitchen, that world.Superficially, this is an ambitious project, with a young filmmaker whose visual skills aren't unusual, and he has been helped by a crew that pulls off most of the cinematic needs of his scenes. The techniques themselves aren't very striking.See this. It is not full of new ways of seeing story, as you find with Medem. It has no novel parallel narratives as you'll often find. But it parallels it does have, else it wouldn't be in this tradition I like so much of magical overlays of reality, up and down. What is striking is the typically Spanish shape of the thing. Folded realities, agents of fate placed among us, the narrative as game that includes a game. The tokens of the game as images and placed in images we "win." Some players as noir characters, others as filmmakers in the thing. This juxtaposition of noir-related game with gambling with images with conflating images in the film with images of the film is unique. Remember when you saw the first film of a gifted filmmaker, and began a rewarding life with a new friend? Here's one for you, a new friend. I do not think he will disappoint.Ted's Evaluation -- 3 of 3: Worth watching.
