Lomedin When I started to read what this film is about, I instantly thought of Ireland. Later on, I discovered that this is indeed an Irish film. No surprise there, since only the Irish can come up with rubbish like this. Who else would set up a horror movie in a rural farm where animals are abused? Well, all animals are abused in farms, anyway. But yeah. I guess living in Ireland for over 10 years gave me a good overview of what to expect from them, and I'm afraid to say that it's exactly stuff like this. I watched "Grabbers" last year thinking that I was going to have a laugh with an Irish film in which drunk people are the only ones not being attacked by the alien invaders. And the movie ended up being a fiasco (why would they try to be serious in a movie that screams hilarious in its premise?). "Wake Wood", another Irish horror movie, is also set in rural Ireland. And it's yet another disappointment with bad acting and little horror indeed. Alas, I hope the nations of the world would make films about what is NOT characteristic of their culture (US=violent action, Spain=Civil War, France=Sex, Irish=farms...). I believe the results, if not good, would be at least interesting.
Flow I'm only writing this comment because I was tricked by all the over-the-top positive feedback this movie has here, on IMDb and after seeing it, I was deeply, deeply disappointed!I can't exactly explain how come all the comments are praising this one, maybe its viewers are a little under the age of 12 or maybe the people involved in the making of the film decided that their job turned out quite nicely and must let the world know about it. But they are wrong, so wrong! What is there to see ? It's extremely slowed paced, most unoriginal subject possible, the camera work seems a little rough and the so called creature, well now that was playing dumb right there. How can you honestly be "scared to death" or in a "permanent fear" like those above me said they were, when you see a 3 inches bone of a monster that kills you by jumping on your face and, well I guess, shaking itself till you DIE! Till you die?? Hehe...yes! Aw and also, it's one of those movies with a twist, yeah, only that the twist is practically spelled out to you since the 40th minute and after that you need to wait about an hour more to act surprised. SURPRISE!!Therefore, do yourself a favor: DO NOT WATCH IT! I could say that you can do a WHOLE LOT WORSE than this one, but that would only make me a big liar, like those who said the movie is great...
wynonasbigbrownbeaver I will briefly describe my experience when downloading the movie: Isolation, on iTunes. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The movie was listed with a mediocre website score both here on IMDb and on iTunes, so I thought to myself I'd give this movie a shot. The previews looked really good and held out most of the flaws I am about to explain below. The scenery of a desolate farm in Northern Ireland as well as the classic camera work that was used made it much more atmospheric. This type of solitude in cinema reminded me of the good old days of watching the Thing. The acting was very solid, especially for the protagonist farmer Dan played by John Lynch. It has all its initial suspenseful moments matched up in the beginning where I was with chilly expectations. The intensity was there up until after the segment of the cows rather disturbing and grotesque sequence giving birth to its calf. Afterwards there were some minor moments of freakish creature feature. There is much storytelling involved along the lines to how these parasite monster evolve, some of it is actually intriguing. The movie did its best to conceal the true identity of the monsters/parasites until half way through. This is where the movie started to die in terms of fear factor. My big complaint about Isolation, was the level of fear factor that involved this parasite monster when it was actually exposed. Sure the minimal special effects did the job on it in terms of quality but it is hard to be afraid of something that resembles a chaotic mess of rubbery flesh that squirms around with its pointy teeth. There was some inconsistency with its size as well. It jumps on one victim like it's 200 pounds, while another actor impales it and lifts it up in the air like it's 10 pounds later on. Physically, it was probably the worst movie monster I've ever seen in recent memory. I wish it was more believable in itself.I can't hate the movie completely and can't fault it for its merits, the cinematography is very well done and perhaps its biggest strength. I still recommend Isolation though some may understandably find themselves disappointed.
Cablebot3000 Isolation is a very odd horror/thriller, but it works. The storyline isn't the best (animal experiment gone wrong), but its doable. The thing that makes the movie pretty good is the characters, suspense, and fear of the unknown. The actors are not well known, but they are good, they make it a lot more believable. Also, they act in a realistic manner, which also really helped. Over all its a great suspense film. Yes, the idea as a whole is pretty trite and corny, but the director made it work into something good. Its a good above average horror/thriller that is actually pretty underrated. I rate this 7/10. Rated R for violence/gore, language and a scene of sexuality
