Meghal Welcome to that magical Bombay city, where everybody is rich and can afford magnificent houses with lawns (not flats), where even a son of a widowed mother (vidhava maa ka eklauta beta - Naseer Hussain special) can afford to go to a night club, where horses and carriages roam freely on streets, where characters hangout in suburb but go to a night club in downtown, where the roads are deserted at night and hero has the courage to escort the heroine at midnight near the deserted library (near Fort), where being artist means growing a beard, wearing an earring and uttering absurd dialogues, where the security at international airport is so lax that anybody can run to the departure gate and sing a song without getting shot, where the characters do not have to worry about finding a job after they graduate. The only upset one can face in life is a break-up from love one.Nasir Hussain movies are always about escapist entertainment and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is no different. In 60s, it was Asha Parekh and Joy Mukherjee dancing to OP Naiyyar music in hill stations, now you have Imraan Khan and Genelia dancing to ARR's music in Bombay. The director has tried hard to add glitz and glamour and modern day touch to an age old story, but the soul remains the same.There is nothing new in the story. Girl and boy are already together. By the time they realise that they are in love, it is too late. So the chase begins..Considering the fact that Mansoor Khan and Aamir Khan are credited as producers of this movie, it is disappointing to see them following a time-tested safe formula. Music by A R Rehman is top notch, but the songs are ill-placed in the movie and tend to hamper the flow of story. The only saving grace comes in form of Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak, although I was never able to figure out the Ratna Pathak's exact occupation - is she a social worker? A human right activist? A lawyer?A 6.5/10 - just for the music, pretty faces and the polished look of the movie.

movie_funda The movie lives up to the name of aamir khan production's.Its a simple story with a new face. A must watch for the youngsters. It has its share of good humorous comedy. The peppy dialogs steal the show. The casting is great, everyone plays there respective character to the T.The songs are rocking and at the same time soothing to the ears. Hats off to A.R.Rahman.The story is about two people jai singh rathore (Imran) and aaditi mahant (Genelia). They are the best of friends and they cannot imagine living without each other. But they don't know that they are actually in love.The movie ends showing how they finally realizes that they are actually in love.The story never drags at any point.final rating 9/10.Must see. At least once.

Miss_Weasley_Potter Perhaps I was expecting TOO much.See, I watched this movie really late, almost when the theaters were empty. I saw SPARKLING promos, amazing songs and heard really good things about this movie.I was expecting a movie like Kal Ho Na Ho. One I would love instantly.I was disappointed.It started off weird. The airport scene was indeed very boring and overused. The friends very robot-like.And then we FINALLY see him and her. The stars. The one we know will win all the best debut awards this year. Imran Khan and Genelia D'Souza.Imran Khan surprised me. I was expecting another mediocre, here in the industry because of relations but he is indeed good. Genelia is decent but needs to work on her accent. She also looks very similar to Sonai Kulkarni, who is a much better actress than she.The story was average. It had its moments. There were times when you were laughing very hard and times when you wanted to go hide under the seat because of the syrupy sweet, totally unrealistic lives and dialogs and story.It tried to teach parents some things as well. The situation with Imran's girlfriend's parents was a very good example and a bit believable as well. I hope parents learn from it.Had I not heard so much about it, I would not have been so disappointed. It was that I was expecting so much, so, so much, that I was so sorely disappointed. It could have done so much better. There were times when it could have shined. But it failed.I think that it is watchable, but only if you have no expectations.A cute romantic comedy, masala movie.5/10.

gursimranjitsingh_sandhu i might be held accused for digging too much into a movie whose sole purpose is to make the viewer 'feel good', but shouldn't feel good movies have some logic? the movie is about two lovers,jai & aditi and their 4 friends. lets start with these friends of theirs.DO THEY HAVE LIVES OF THEIR OWN? throughout the movie, it seems like their lives start,stop & revolve around jai & aditi, & the funniest part is both jai & aditi don't give a s**t about them. initially, jai & aditi are too involved with each other to care about them,then jai-aditi-(what's this?-girl) are too involved in their crap to notice about them. now, this friend group has 2 boys, one of them is not bad-looking,but he is given such bad hair styling and such bad clothes compared to jai that he looks like a clown throughout the movie.the other guy is balding, and given even worse clothes.out of 2 girls, one is shown to have below average IQ, the other is shown as such a witty girl,one begins to wonder what is she doing with them? as a whole,the director made them look like a bunch of biggest losers on the planet,so that we can focus solely on jai & aditi.the balding guy & the stupid girl have feelings for aditi & jai.they fall for each other,because they envy jai-aditi's love for each other.and at this point,the viewers are told that jai & aditi don't think they love each other(even though the whole universe knows that they do).they suddenly become too dumb to understand this most obvious thing.after this,starts the silliest of melodrama.i could not connect with any of the characters because i really don't think such characters exist in real life.but what i think doesn't matter because movie is a hit & amir,the producer has made a point.at one point in the movie,amir makes jai's mother say that Indian filmmakers(excluding amir,of course) make silly movies & Indian cinema needs intelligent movies.so when jai goes out to watch a movie, he watches a 'james bond' movie instead of an Indian movie. i totally agree with you amir,except that i don't think you have made any intelligent movie either.
