Prismark10 Courtney Cox makes her directorial debut in Just Before I Go starring Seann William Scott (Ted) as mild mannered 41 year old who returns to his home town for some final preparations before he commits suicide.Ted has never felt right since his father died when he was a kid and although a pet shop manager in LA he feels his life is in a rut especially since his girlfriend left him. Haunted by memories of the high school bully, the teacher who tormented him at school he returns to stay with his brother and confront some of these people. What Ted finds that life is messed up in his home town. His brother, a police officer is obnoxious, might be having an affair. His wife sensing his infidelity breaks into Ted's bedroom at night and openly masturbates in the guise of sleepwalking, his nephew is closeted gay but hangs around bullies. His old teacher is in a nursing home, the high school bully is now a single parent raising a disabled child. Ted realises that things have changed but is still unsure about himself. He has an affair with a girl who was nice to him at High School even though she is a married mother of five kids and her weight has ballooned. This dark bitter sweet comedy actually does not start off promisingly and also not very original. Scott gives a low key performance as Ted, miles away from his character in the American Pie films. The film has just too much contrived zany characters and although the film finds it soft centre eventually it does it with a lot of wonkiness and without much laughs.
Neil Reyes Very funny, feel-good movie. It will make you laugh it will make you cry and most importantly it will make you think about life :) I connected to almost every character they have there especially the lead role. The actors are convincing and great which helps the movie to deliver it's humor. Some people say some jokes are really offensive like "retard" etc. but I think It's just okay because it helps the character(the lead man's bully brother) to be himself and makes him more believable. It also made me cry which I didn't expect honestly especially the ending part where he meets his dad :( Lastly, I want to applaud the writer, and maybe the director to, for creating a story that can connect to almost every other person in the world.
Gordon-11 This film tells the story of a suicidal man who decides to visit a few people who mistreated him and made his life miserable, before he kills himself. The film starts off with a man drowning in the sea, then flashes back to three weeks ago, when he starts his closure tour to visit all the horrible in his life. He discovers that the horrible people all have their reasons to be horrible, and in fact they lead much sadder lives. Then, his tour becomes something that changes the lives of the people around him. I really love the plot, as it is surrounded by positivity and love, even though the underlying theme appears to be grim. In fact, the film manages to be happy and light hearted despite of the unhappy circumstances, which is a big achievement.I am so touched by the supportive attitude towards gays. When Romeo's mother says the God she loves indeed loves everybody, it is just super touching and inspiring. "Just Before I Go" is a very affirming film that touches and inspires. I truly enjoyed it.
KineticSeoul The main reason I wanted to check this movie out is because it has Seann William Scott in it. I don't know, I just usually found him likable on screen. Plus he usually picks interesting or amusing movies to be in. Despite the negative reviews this movie has been getting, I personally enjoyed it. Sure, it can be a touchy subject when they decide to make a comedy about a guy that thinks suicide is the answer. But it goes in a endearing, kind of heartfelt and empathetic direction. With some awkward humor thrown in there. Seann William Scott constantly has this WTF face throughout the whole movie, but the thing is it actually works when it comes to the premise. So the story is about a guy who feels he is down on his luck, feels insignificant and thinks suicide is the only way. I think this is something that crossed most people's mind in their life, even if it's very slightly. Evem though there is no intention of going through with it. Anyways before he takes his life he wants to go back to his hometown and confront the people that have wronged him. He meets a girl who is the daughter of the teacher he detested in the past. I didn't think this was a laugh out loud comedy, but I did like the raunchy humor and didn't find it annoying to watch. Overall I personally think this is a very watchable movie, and at least think it's a okay movie to sit through at least once.6.5/10
