Payback1016 Much like everyone else who's commented here, I too have seen Knight Rider for the awesome spectacle it is and this TV/Movie was no exception. Michael, Devon and especially KITT are back for one last ride in the year 2000. This was based on a trend where every media made, from the 60s to the early 90s depicted 2000 as the futuristic year. In this case, handguns are banned even in Law enforcement, The Foundation of Law and Government still remains while trying to test out their newest creation KIFT (Knight Industries Four Thousand) and Devon comes to ask a retired Michael Knight to come back. However instead of using their newest car, Michael opts to retrofit his Chevy Bel Air with KITT's old software. Meanwhile Rogue cops, angered that they can't use handguns (Instead use a nifty sonic gun that knocks down suspects.), commit crimes and nearly kill Officer Shawn McCormick for knowing too much, a story parallel to Knight's own. Thanks to a chip in her head that was later discovered to be one of KITT's many lost microprocessors, Shawn is recruited by the foundation to help find the men responsible for her attempted Murder and prove once and for all that once person can make a difference. Now this one doesn't have as much action as the show that precedes it, but it still has the spirit of the show, through it's humor and has some legit cool moments. Such as the final fight scene between Michael Knight and Tommy Watts. It was also a great way to pass the torch from one good cop to another.
m-ozfirat In the days of the video cassette the original Knight Rider was hard to find. Although released on VHS it was not mainstream. One day I came across this at my local video shop a sequel that was the only Knight Rider product predominantly released on video and so I was curios. The sequel in writing surpasses the original with a more coherent storyline and a better lead that is female, which one can take seriously and fits in better with the scenario of the series making the lead one to admire an example being she is well spoken. The characters in a wider sense are better and fit in well within the storyline. The futuristic setting is good and imaginary with later technological developments that are intertwined in later civic life based on the breakthroughs happening in the early 90s. The look of the new car also fits in with this time making it futuristic. The only critic I have of it is that it lacks the charm of the original as the Pontiac Firebird had a more slick look to it and the music. But in the writing, setting and theme there was great improvement although at times it got a bit corny. In some offbeat manner these key strengths surpass the original had these strengths of been combined with the original series it would of been better. I personally do not believe in sequels but this one acts as insurance against those previous mistakes and is a noble successor
Mastrobuono1029 I have been a fan of Knight Rider for a long time. I am only 14 years old but i used to watch the re runs of the shows on TV back in the 90s. After the show went off the air I thought I'd never see it again. Then I found out about season one's release and rushed out and bought it. I was very excited to see "Knight Rider 2000" in there because I'd never heard of it before. So I watch all the episodes and saved (what i thought would be) the best for last. I watched the movie and was horrified for a couple of huge reasons:1) NO KNIGHT RIDER ORIGINAL THEME 2) NO 1980'S BLACK PONTIAC TRANS AM 3) K.I.T.T. HAD ATTITUDE AND WAS AN ASSHOLE 4) NO BONNIE BARSTOW 5) DEVON MILES IS MURDEREDSo does that answer your question on my opinion of this movie? I honestly found it to be insulting to the original series. It is almost nothing like "Knight Rider". Don't watch this movie if your a true Knight Rider fan like me, you will be disappointed.
Johnson This movie stunk to high ....This movie's plot was a joke and was made a joke. A total smack in the face of the series! I can understand Michael retiring and leaving KITT to the foundation to continue on with another driver, but once I found out that KITT got dismantled after he got "outdated", I was enraged!! Why didn't they just give him to Michael? After ALL they went though together, why couldn't they just honor Michael and have KITT retire with him. Seeing KITT in a BIN was way to heart breaking!!! Killing off Devon was another terrible piece of the plot. That was totally not needed to be done, and for what...As for the ending, it finally put KITT in the RED car. The problem with that is I remember in one of the episodes that KITT had to be covered inside a RED fancy car shell for a mission and when he finally was out of it they asked him if he liked RED. He said "I'm the Knight Industries Two Thousand ... not a tomato on wheels". Now I totally agree. The car should be BLACK, not RED (just doesn't fit). There were other terrible pieces of the plot and I could go on for several paragraphs but let's just say the movie did not have any good spots at all! You can tell Glen Larson had nothing to do with this movie. The plot was just not him. Hopefully in the next movie (yes, hopefully), now that they might have Glen Larson on board, they will just forget this movie existed (leave it in an alternate universe) and have it continued straight from the series' end and not this unfortunately made movie's end.
