qmtv Only watch this if you're looking to laugh at the movie. It's supposed to be a horror comedy. The horror is garbage. The comedy is garbage. There were a few decent kill scenes. And a few decent comedy scenes. One in particular was when the two guys were on the plane trying to land it. There's not much here to enjoy. Better luck next time.2 stars for trying. And for not being an absolute pile of garbage.
Leofwine_draca LAST OF THE LIVING is an ultra-cheap zombie comedy in which a group of slackers go around and bump off members of the living dead in the wake of an apocalypse. Yes, it's a cheap derivative of SHAUN OF THE DEAD, made without any of the laughs, the wit, the gore, or indeed the technical prowess of the film-makers. And this is from a guy who doesn't even particularly like SHAUN OF THE DEAD.LAST OF THE LIVING is a Kiwi film although it's a far cry from the solid genre fare that used to come out of New Zealand - Peter Jackson's BRAINDEAD being a shining example. The whole thing is so cheap it looks like it was filmed on somebody's video camera with a group of buddies (and non-actors) standing in for the fellow cast members. There's not a single funny moment throughout the lengthy running time, and by the time we reach the end I was feeling extremely frustrated at having sat through a film so lacking in originality, a film without a single thing to say or distinguish itself from anything else in the over-crowded sub-genre of film-making.
Uriah43 This is one of those rare zombie films that actually manages to bring a bit of humor into a setting that isn't really tailored for it. Now, that is not to say that this is a movie that will have everyone rolling in the aisles. It won't because it isn't that kind of a movie. But it does have some amusing scenes here and there. Essentially, three pitiful guys "Morgan" (Morgan Williams), "Johnny" (Robert Faith) and "Ash" (Ashleigh Southam) are holed up in a house after a zombie outbreak has decimated their town in New Zealand. One day they accidentally run into a woman named "Stef" (Emily Padden-Brown) and each of them immediately try to impress her. Unfortunately for them, she is more interested in getting a sample of blood taken from a zombie to a group of scientists who are working on a cure. Naturally, they all decide to help her but not necessarily with the interests of the entire world as their reason. Anyway, this movie doesn't follow any normal path and there are a few unexpected twists and turns that crop up throughout the movie. Again, there is some comedy here but there is also a plot which requires a certain dark perspective as well. And adding comedy into a zombie nightmare is a more difficult task to accomplish than many people fully realize. The fact that this one succeeds on such a low budget is what makes this film so rare.
HighFlyer_15 I bought it, because I was fooled by the "destined to become a cult classic" sticker on the front.. It's nowhere near being a cult classic, I'd be surprised if it's remembered in a few years..The characters were funny enough, most of the time, but sometimes also too much.. Like lead actor Morgan got annoying in the end with his cocky attitude, could've been done better..Zombies farting all the time isn't my thing either.. Zombies suddenly learning to run in the middle of the movie isn't my thing either.. An ending you've seen many times before isn't my thing either..Also a very big concern I have.. WHY do some zombie heroes and heroins try to find a cure, that can turn the zombies back to normal?? Who'd want to be a rotten human? Zombies are DEAD and CAN'T be turned back.. You can maybe make a vaccine, so you can become immune, but a cure to turn you back would never be possible in any zombie universe.."You've been turned back to normal! Now go live your life again!" "But.. My guts are all over the floor.." *drops dead again*Rent it, if you MUST see it!
