micheyns Whatever happened to the well-made plot? This series just chucks one gasp-gasp episode on top of another, with no attempt even to suggest they might be relevant to each other. Sure, there's a story line of sorts, and it's all 'explained', clearly hoping that the viewer is so gobsmacked that s/he has forgotten about all the loose plot threads dangling all over the show. That said, some good performances from actors who shouldn't be wasting their talents on this hogwash. But I suppose times are hard for the likes of Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling. But Ben Whishaw could surely land something better than this.
tecktomaket What is critically revealed in LONDON SPY is the fact that the current use of digital facial recognition for personal security devices, smart phones and online social media is the hidden loop hole for government surveillance data/tracking that can be used against innocent civilians. The AI bioethic/metric programming is already in use.Taking it one step further-a lie detector scan just raised the intriguing high-tech clandestine spy ops a lot higher. Like Genealogy DNA testing, the downside can become falsely used incriminating evidence as depicted. "Enemy of the State"This is the most important take away from LONDON SPY.I'm a huge fan of le Carre-and don't see a copycat here, but a masterfully written storyline on equal tradecraft footing. The homo-erotic S&M; true love thread is solid reality juxtaposed to the GRID/HIV epidemic. And the crypted tumbler coded USB stick is brilliant. (I have one to protect my own Algo formulated network research coded data.)The subtilty of cross-cultural traits are perfected with concise dialogue that carries the plot forward. This is masterfully attained only by a disciplined well educated helmer. Worth a binge watch. Kudos BBC.
michaelmouse1 What an exceptional thriller this is. Clearly this is a star vehicle for Ben Wishaw, who drives this series in a breathtaking performance. Arguably one of the best television series produced so far, you'd be a hard case not to fall under its spell. The first two episodes indicate something clearly exceptional is at play here...the acting is stunning, the production values top notch and the weaving of a web-like story is so subtle you're trapped before you know it. The twists and turns will keep you guessing until the very end - nothing is what it seems. Or is it? It's so refreshing to see Gay main characters being treated respectfully and with gravitas, as they deserve like any other character. I only say this because their sexuality is intrinsic to the plot. If you're the slightest bit homophobic, this is not for you. It's no more explicit than the usual run of the mill films but the rarity of seeing two attractive men engaging in naked intimacy will be a celebration for some, a revelation for others and, unfortunately for conservatives, confronting. But if you tune out you're missing a real gem here. It's a thriller for everyone. It's deliciously slow in unfolding and goes down paths you won't expect. Like all series there are the odd stretches of credulity but, for the most part, the story-line is absolutely believable. It's nuanced, highly thrilling, sad, shocking and, ultimately very rewarding. Highly recommended! A stunner!
shivamt25 London Spy is about a guy who meets another guy, fell in love and decided that this is the person he can spend rest of his life with. Until the other person ends up murdered. After his dreams being shattered, he found out that there was a lot which he did not know about his boyfriend, who happens to be a spy. Also, he has to clear his name as a suspect. He refused the stories being fed to him and took it upon himself to fight the unknown resisting forces to find the truth about how the man he loved so much ended up dead. I love to watch Ben Whishaw on screen. I can watch anything he is in. In this five-part series, he played the part of an innocent lover of a spy with amazing finesse. On top of that, you'll get to see Charlotte Rampling's mysterious portrayal of a mother who just lost her son. Also, special mention should be given to Jim Broadbent for playing a Man Friday to the lead character. The series follows Ben while he tries to find out who killed his lover and why. He is so unsure of what is going on but he is sure of one thing, Alex (his lover, played by Edward Holcroft) loved him more than anything. This gives him the courage to tackle anything which comes between him and finding the truth. One thing which I had a problem with was his amazing abilities to fill the holes in the stories. Many times it feels like he would come up with a connection between things on his own just like that. Nevertheless, the series is an amazing watch. It has a lot of twists and turns but mostly what I loved were intense conversations between crucial characters.
