robertegblack Some jokes in this black comedy really work. Many fall flat, and for only 75 minutes long, it felt more like a few hours. Condensed into a half hour on something like Tales from the Crypt, this could have been amazing but there just isn't enough there there.
RyanEardley01 Microwave Massacre I can easily say was garbage but there is something special about how bad it is its just so memorable. Jackie Vernon plays Donald a man who just wants a good meal and hates his wife May and her cooking so he decides cannibalism is the best option and boy the effects and makeup are the greatest they are so bad its incredible. The comedy in this movie hits but in all the wrong places and Jackie Vernon performance is brilliantly bad it seems like he didn't care but at the same time I know the movie a comedy and I think that might have been the aim with his performance. The directing is something of pure genius how bad all the camera work is and even finding a lot of mistakes with continuity and even seeing crew members at one point. The movie is awful its not a masterpiece but god I enjoyed myself watching this and I highly recommend this disaster.
johnthursday The 8 is given for those who get a kick out of purposefully raunchy comedy horror satire films. The film was originally filmed in 1981 by a UCLA student as part of a school project but wasn't released until 1983. The purpose of the school project was to write and film an exploitation movie. Well, apparently the guy got an "A" on his project. Microwave Massacre doesn't fail in the cheese department but that is its ultimate charm. It is misogynistic and corny. Poor Donald, the regular guy construction worker is tormented by his shrew wife and her insistence on having "gourmet" microwave meals. Donald is played by comedian Jackie Vernon and the movie is full of classic deadpan one-liners. Plenty of gratuitous nudity and crude, obvious humor. Horrible props and the boom mic is visible in several scenes. If you want a good laugh, give it a whirl. Maybe an hour and twenty minutes long. Awful late disco/early 80s music. For camp horror film fans, it doesn't disappoint.
Michael_Elliott Microwave Massacre (1983) ** (out of 4)Donald (Jackie Vernon) is a hard-working construction worker who sadly is married to a not-so-great woman. Instead of cooking him "manly" meals she instead cooks up all sorts of weird meals popular in unknown countries. Donald finally snaps and kills her and this leads to a new life when he realizes that human flesh is quite good for the body.MICROWAVE MASSACRE is a film that I truly, truly hated the first time I watched it. The question would be why I bothered giving it a second chance but there's no question that it played out much better this time because it's smart to go into it not expecting too much and certainly not expecting some sort of graphic horror movie. If you go into this movie with a serious mind-frame then you'll certainly be disappointed because this movie was meant to be pure camp and that's exactly what it is. The story is quite strange to say the least but at the same time it makes for an offbeat comedy that has some funny moments as well as some very awkward moments. I say awkward simply because the entire tone of the picture is rather silly and especially the way Donald carries on with his co-workers.The plot basically has Donald finally living his life and gathering up hookers so that he can kill them and store their meat in his fridge. There are some really campy moments between Donald and the ladies but the director also offers up a ton of nudity yet very little gore. The performances are mostly over-the-top and I'm going to guess that's what the director went for.Vernon's performance is the one that's really off but I'm going to guess that the director wanted this. The character is a rather awkward man and I think having the performance so different than the rest helps make you feel that and on that level I think it works. I'm sure a lot of people are going to hate the humor style here but if you can get where they're trying to go then MICROWAVE MASSACRE is an interesting, if not completely successful, little film.
