Mr.Crow So I binged watched all of the police stories movies in a row and I felt the need to comment on this one in the series. Now all of the movies have their own separate stories so you don't need watch them all unlike the lethal weapon series where you would be TOTALLY lost by the fourth movie. I've always saw these movies as kung fu movie that don't take too serious and never really pay attention to the plot. This one however it really REALLY wants you to focus on the story, and it gets dark and depressing pretty quick. My main problem with the movie is that version I watched had a weird dubbed version but also had subtitles playing at the same time, but with different words. It really took me out of the moment. The action is standard jackie chan, however the action scenes kinda takes a backseat to the tension and drama in the film. If you're looking for some insane scenes that you saw in the first one, you're going to be disappointed. Watch it if you're a fan of the series, but definitely not a good starting point.
mic90 A Hero cop accidentally leads his team into a trap from which is the only survivor. Drowning his guilt in booze, he is eventually assigned a new younger partner who turns out to have his own secrets. If you expect some comedy elements and big stunts, then New Police Story is disappointment. The movie is full of drama and serious acting. Sure there is a few fight scenes. Usually Jackie Chan movies are "one man shows" but in this movie Hong Kong's young stars got good roles and maybe done better job than Chan. Example Daniel Wu (from many JC movies) did good performance. For action movie there aren't not much action. For me it was good thing that there was more drama showed that Chan can act. Even that there was a bit too much crying scenes but overall New Police Story is very good Hong Kong movie. It was better than most Jackie Chan Hollywood films.
Sassy Cat Definitely the best of the Police Story series, and one of the best movies that Jackie's been in. As much as I love his comedy, I really enjoy seeing him do straight drama. The story and the action are riveting and pretty much nonstop. A small gang of punkass teens are after money and have an insatiable thirst for cop blood. And they are pretty brutal about getting both. The way they go about their mayhem is pretty clever and twisted. One of the best things going in this movie are the teaming of Jackie and Nicholas Nse. Nse's fast talking, smart mouthed younger cop makes a perfect match for Jackie's seasoned and serious veteran. They play off each other perfectly with touches of subtle humor here and there. I would have loved to see them paired up more as this cop duo, but it's now 9 years later already and even Nse himself isn't a kid anymore.A definite winner. Break out the popcorn and settle in with the lights off.
siderite Let's face it, the movie is just bad. Jackie Chan is too old to be doing heavy duty fighting so he is trying his super powers at acting in something more that just bad heavy muscled Europeans trying to kill him and his girlfriend. And he fails miserably. It's not that he actually played very bad, but the script was hideous. There was no comedy, the ideas in it were completely unbelievable and even the fighting kind of sucked. You want to make a great Jackie Chan movie there are three ways to do it: great comedy, great fighting, or something really innovative, like playing a hard cold assassin that uses the Chan style to kill his victims and escape capture. Kind of like an evil Bourne :)Anyway, my daylight dreaming aside, this movie is a waste of time.
