Reviews

Mike Snyder The plot and story was solid. I think the revenge plot the story gives is pretty good and entertaining. With that being said, the only redeeming quality of the movie is the gratuitous nudity throughout. The actors especially the men, was atrocious. The directing was absolutely horrible and the sound editing was so bad, I wanted to turn the volume down so I wouldn't have to hear anything. I think if the movie had a better director, better sound editing, and decent actors and more production, it would have been a cult classic. The score was pretty good but generic. The women actors in the movie were mediocre at best, the only nice looking boobies throughout the movie were the paid strippers they hired for the movie. The movie tries to pull off a Quentin Tarantino style movie but fails pretty hard. The story, the nudity, the dumb humor gets this movie a 3 in my book. I really don't mind the nuns with guns, but they really could have dropped the whole raping nuns thing out of the movie, it just didn't come across as funny or fun at all to watch at all.
Theo Robertson If the title doesn't grab you in how's this for an opening sequence - the scene an empty desert where several tough hombres from a biker gang watch a bus arrive . A priest departs from the bus and lays down a suitcase . A biker opens it and finds a bundle of drugs but there seems to be a bundle missing . Outraged he runs in to the bus and asks the three nuns if they stole his drugs before shooting one of them A simple revenge plot that sticks out from the norm because the revenger out on a mission is a Catholic nun . Add to this that every scene must have full frontal female nudity , lesbian sex , rape or murder then you can perhaps jump to the conclusion as I did that this is a deliberately tasteless black comedy with an emphathis on violence you'd see from Quentin Tarantino or perhaps more accurately Robert Rodriguez . Director Joseph Guzman obviously had a lot of fun making the movie but unfortunately the fun isn't translated all that well to the audience and what probably started off as a good idea starts wearing out its welcome more quickly than it should have . I can see the point of the film trying to outrage the pious but the excessive violence and sleaze started to bore me long before the end credits came up
Neil Welch There can only be two possible reasons for a film to bear the title Nude Nuns With Big Guns. One is that the person doing the naming suffers from some sort of severe mental illness - let us hope that this is not the case, for the film is not bad enough for me to wish that on someone. The other is that the makers are going for some sort of post-modern irony, a satirical commentary on audience taste, born out by a movie taking a gleeful delight in both revelling in and spoofing the elements summoned up in the title. Tarantino is good at this, so they tell me (I don't believe his publicity to the extent that he does, so my particular jury is still out on that one). The people behind Nude Nuns With Big Guns are not Tarantino. This film (which, let's be clear from the start, does indeed include both Nude Nuns and Big Guns) is professionally assembled. The camera is securely mounted on a tripod, scenes are well lit, shots are nicely composed, the film is in focus and the sound is clear. The acting is over the top, but it is supposed to be. There is lots of spurting blood. To that extent, all well and good. But the story and script let everything down. Where there should be a sly smirk underlying the events, there is clodhopping gracelessness and a complete absence of wit. Sadly, this film simply isn't very good.
Tim Kidner Pun intended. This enjoyable thriller was on The Horror Channel and Radio Times didn't give a rating, nor even marked it up as a film, even! Their scantiest of synopsis forced me to look elsewhere and here on Amazon, a number of positive reviews had me checking it out. I had been expecting the worse and whilst not a classic, was certainly better than I anticipated.Yes, the nuns are often completely starkers and occasionally get shot in the head in a similar state. There is an element of style over substance, with the warm-tinged colours of New Mexico and with an atmospheric, screechy, very Spanish sounding wailing guitar soundtrack, that does indeed come right from a Robert Rodriguez flick. The ultra violence, with quite a lot of bullet generated spatter, with slo-mo camera and emphasised music is very Tarantino. The quick cut to red/sepia/black and white and meaningful-looking panning in some scenes add interest and variety. With a topless bar called The Cherry Popper and the film's title, you sort of know where you are with this one. Obviously one for adults only, for liberally minded heterosexual males (most likely) and for late nights, to unwind to and to not take very seriously. The actual story is a bit of a mess but I didn't watch this film for its storytelling, nor its screenplay - and I doubt if many will. Having said that, it's not just a soft core nude fest, this is also a thriller, with horror overtones. At the moment, I'm seriously thinking of buying the DVD, which is quite an endorsement as it means that I obviously want to see it again. I was a bit disappointed with the rather thin sounding, almost mono soundtrack and I'd be keen to know how this sounds on the DVD. I guess it would be the same.Yes, the title is shamelessly attention grabbing, but for once that's OK, because there are indeed nude nuns, with big guns. But you get a whole decent movie as well, which certainly wasn't expected. Bonus!
