The screenplay, if one can call this one note monstrosity that, was written by Shore and some guy named Kirk Fox, yet it all smacks of being a vanity project, laced with bad one liners where the B listers try to recall who Shore was, after his 'death', then rail against him when exposed. You know you're film is in trouble when a supposedly funny scripted line by Chris Rock, 'No Pauly. {blank} you. Stay dead,' turns out to be the most genuine reaction to this film. My only consolation is that the DVD was cheap and this review will hopefully deter any other potential viewers from lining Shore's pockets. You have to take small victories wherever you can get them, sometimes.

That may be damning this thing with faint praise. However, this is one of the funniest flicks I have seen in a while and I think it is an indication of the perverse nature of IMDb that it didn't rate higher. If this had been scripted by Charles Kaufman then all you sports jacket wearing mofo's would be worshipping like some kind of object of worship.Great performances, and the alternative ending on the DVD is even funnier than the one in the film. This gives you a real feeling that there is more to Pauly Shore than sub Bill and Ted Fare like Bio-dome and hopefully he will get some better projects as a result of this film.

PAULY SHORE IS DEAD will be liked by some and hated by many, i'm sure. I, however, having just watched this on Showtime's free preview weekend, liked this movie. Seems Pauly's career has gone down the toilet (who would of thought?) and Pauly starts being visited by the spirit of the late, great SAM KINISON (I ? the spelling) who gives Pauly...wait for it...advice. So, Pauly decides to fake his own death. He pulls this off by stealing the body of a dead man, dressing him to look like himself and shooting the guy in the head. After all, according to Pauly, he was already dead. Soon, the death of PAULY SHORE is news across the globe and Pauly is happy that he has stirred up some much needed publicity and so what if he had to be fake dead to get it. But, as things like this tend to do, his plan backfires and soon the talk across the globe is that Pauly faked his death. Needless to say, people aren't happy. I will stop right there with that. This movie is low budget at best but it is fun to watch. There are cameos aplenty. A quick example: CARROT TOP (great in this movie as the next big thing who actually buys Pauly's house and rubs it in his face because Pauly's broke), DR. DRE (according to him "Pauly had some good weed."), Britney SPEARS (who refers to Pauly as "the guy who was on MTV before she was born.") and there are more. This movie plays out like an E! TRUE Hollywood STORY that is quite interesting and funny. I've said enough.

Let me start by saying I have never had the urge to make a comment on IMDb yet - not for a great movie, and certainly not for a bad one. But this movie was so horrible I HAD to warn people.I thought Pauly Shore was reasonably funny until this. Half of this movie isn't even trying to be humorous. It's Pauly Shore's desperate attempt at saving his career.Yes there are tons of celebrity "cameos", but they are all so short, and I'd say maybe two of them are slightly funny. This movie plays as if it was written and directed by a no-talent former MTV "VJ". And it is.
