adonis98-743-186503 An Air Force astronaut crash lands on a mysterious planet where evolved, talking apes dominate a race of primitive humans. Planet of the Apes seemed like the greatest film of all time when i was a kid but now i can see the flaws of the film especially in terms of story and character. The plot isn't that bad to be honest but it could have been better, the make up work is truly remarkable but some actors are easily to spot on like Michael Clarke Duncan and Helena Bonham Carter. The film is unfortunately kinda slow and it does get some time to reach the part that it needs to reach plus in my opinion CGI is still way better for this film and the later remakes like Rise, Dawn and War proved that. As for Mark Wahlberg? Well he is Mark Wahlberg he is easily likable what can i say? Tim Roth as Thade does a terrific job as the villain and he is totally unrecognisable. If the film didn't have such a slow pacing, the dumb and retarded ending could been deleted and some pretty awkward moments could have been erased too it would honestly been a much better story it would have been a 10/10 but with what i have in my hands? Well it's not as bad as many people make it sound like but it's nowhere near the masterpiece that it could have been and personally i found it to be an 'okay' Friday Night film that will either entertain you or bore the hell out of you. The Andy Serkis films are of course 1.000 times better but this film is at least enjoyable and even tho it's not one of Tim Burton's worst films it's definitely not one of his best ones either at least it's better than Big Eyes that's something. (6/10)
swilliky Director Tim Burton remade the science fiction classic but came up short on quality and story. Captain Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) works with chimpanzees teaching them space flight aboard a space station. When they come close to a space storm, they send out the chimp Pericles but he flies off course. Davidson flies out after it, disobeying orders, and is warped further out in space and time. He crash lands in a swamp and abandons his ship as it sinks beneath the water. He quickly encounters other humans who are fleeing an attack by apes. The humanoid chimps and gorillas have amazing jumping abilities and easily catch the humans, throwing them in carts. Leo is shocked to find out that the apes can speak. Using humans as cattle, Leo and the other captives a brought back into the ape city, full of all sorts of astonishing sights. The apes do not treat the humans with respect though Ari (Helen Bonham Carter) scolds the child apes that throw stones at them. The trader orangutan Limbo (Paul Giamatti) purchases the humans and stores them in prisons. The leader Thade (Tim Roth) inspects them with his right-hand man Attar (Michael Clarke Duncan), looking to purchase one for his daughter. As Limbo brands the humans like Daena (Estella Warren), Ari interferes on their behalf and purchase Leo, bringing him home. The apes debate possessing humans at dinner and Thade visits Ari after professing his love, though she spurns him. Leo escapes with Daena who makes him help her father Karubi (Kris Kristofferson) and family. The humans can all talk and Leo organizes an escape with them and Ari, though Karubi sacrifices himself.Check out more of this review and others at swilliky.com
oscar-35 Planet of the Apes, 2001.*Spoiler/plot- A modern exploratory black hole USAF station is using chimps to navigate around the through a black hole. One chimp is lost and his concerned trainer human follows the chip's spacecraft to only find a ape planet in civil war.*Special Stars- Mark Wahlber, DIR- Tim BUrton.*Theme- Exploration can involve time, history, and societies.*Trivia/location/goofs- Location: Planetary desert or 'Calima' was Trona Pinnacles, Ridgecrest CA and Lake . The background performers at the Trona Pinnacles area were poisoned when the film production decided to use crushed walnut shells instead of Fuller's Earth for desert dust storms. Several people got sick because of the allergies to walnut products and the production was shut-down for some days for safety of all. Look for Charlton Heston in this film playing General Thade's ancient father. Also the many famous lines and scenes appear in this film with many interesting Tim Burton twists.*Emotion- A lush and different plot from the earlier 20th Century Fox film franchise series. Very enjoyable and has some nice homages to the early film more brighter dialog and memorable scenes.*Based on- French author's Boule famous book.
Richie-67-485852 This movie had high hopes because all the prior movies entertained and gave us something we never seen before. We even got twists and turns and when it was over, we felt we got our moneys worth. In this movie of the same subject, they broke the cardinal rule. They made or make the audience have to work out the movie instead of the movie entertaining them. Now there are some movies that risk this and leave you in an okay state from their efforts. However, if the work to be done is too complex, far out, too detailed and involves much explanation, then it wasn't a movie at all but instead a homework assignment. We become the movie and finish the tale to keep ourselves content and to have a sense of closure. There are some good scenes, acting, and high hopes here and there. But when you expect the paying audience to have to explain a movie so they can understand what they just saw? This is not the best approach and you can forget about a comeback experience. In other words, once is enough. If one likes the Planet of the Apes world, the novel it is based on and the stars like Wahlberg, by all means see the movie. Just don't expect more for less
