nightroses This is the ultimate sci-fi B movie night film to enjoy with popcorn. I really enjoyed watching this. The film has good special effects for low budget, a good storyline, funny lines, interesting aliens and monsters. It's obvious that many would hate it and give this a very low rating because it's not a mainstream film and it's just a decent science fiction. It doesn't have any Hollywood pap or any of the popular PC fillups. it's just devoid of this rubbish you get in big blockbusters these days. It's better than a lot of Hollywood big films. Sometimes the smaller productions are really entertaining. I also want to point out that if you suffer arachnophobia, please don't watch this.

Leofwine_draca PRINCESS OF MARS is another of the lame mockbuster movies put out by The Asylum, this one ripping off JOHN CARTER. It's another Edgar Rice Burroughs adaptation in which a soldier is sent to an alien planet, where he must interact with the alien locals, save a beautiful princess, and engage in a war with a powerful enemy. Being an Asylum film, this is cheap and cheesy indeed, the usual desert adventure in which most of the supporting cast are guys wearing cheesy rubber masks. Antonio Sabato Jr. is completely wooden as the chiselled but one-dimensional lead, but you have to feel most sorry for Traci Lords, who really shouldn't be parading around in a bikini like this at her age. The whole film is silly and disappointing.

Paul Magne Haakonsen Clearly "Princess of Mars" is The Asylum's cash in on the "John Carter" movie that was out in March 2009, as "Princess of Mars" came out in December of the very same year. Is that a trademark of The Asylum, to take something that others made famous and then just sponge and leech of that success?At any rate, and regarding the motivation behind this movie, then The Asylum actually managed to pull of a fairly decent movie here, compared to some of the other more questionable releases they have spewed out.The story, if you are familiar with either the "John Carter" movie or the E.R. Burroughs novel, is about John Carter, a man from Earth, who end up on a distant red planet, where he have to save their world from impending doom.Pretty straight off the copy and paste storyboard here, without anything new or overly interesting to be added to the story. But still, the movie was enjoyable for what it was. A word of warning though; if you have seen the "John Carter" movie that was out earlier in 2009, then chances are that you might want to stay clear of this version. Imagine a weird hybrid of the 1980's "Flash Gordon" movie mixed with Disney's "John Carter" movie, and you have the end result coming out as "Princess of Mars".One thing that did puzzle me, though, with the technology and resources available to the human-like race on this red planet, why would their princess be clad so scantily like a common... Well, you get my meaning. It just didn't make sense. Or did it? Well, you have Traci Lords in the role as the princess, so of course, why wouldn't the director be having her running around half naked?The creature effects were adequate to look at, except for those bipedal reptiles that they used for mounts. They were just horrible to look at. Awfully animated CGI and they walked like they all had bad indigestion.I will say that The Asylum did put out a fairly enjoyable Sci-Fi movie here, but in the wake of Disney's "John Carter", then the movie pales in comparison.

The continuity was appalling the story was terrible and the acting except Traci Lords (graduate of the Lee Strasberg studio) was cringe making. Traci Lords is an interesting case study. She is an example of a determined and complex woman with a very controversial background. Born and raised in Ohio as Nora Louise Kuzma, she moved with her divorced mother and three sisters to Los Angeles at age 12. She ran away from home and began nude modeling at age 15, then adult films a year later.An incredibly developed, full-figured girl, she easily duped photographers, producers and directors (with the help of a false birth certificate and driver's license). Her stage name is a combination of Traci, from a former school friend, and Lords, in honor of her favorite male actor, Jack Lord ("Hawaii Five-O" (1968)). She later owned a white Persian cat named Mr. Steve McGarrett, the name of the character Lord played on the show. Traci made somewhere between 80 and 100 X-rated movies (some consisted mostly of leftover footage from previous shoots) between 1984 and 1986.In May 1986 she was arrested by FBI agents when it was discovered she was underage, which meant that any films with her in them were illegal to rent or buy, and video stores around the country rushed to remove them. The only legal porn movie Traci made was Traci, I Love You (1987) (V), which was filmed in Paris, France, on her 18th birthday. Since she controlled distribution rights, many people believed she orchestrated the revelation herself so she could be the only one to profit from her X-rated career. She even guest-starred in a number of TV shows ranging from "Married with Children" (1987), "Roseanne" (1988), "MacGyver" (1985) and "Nash Bridges" (1996).She has always despised being referred to as "an ex-porn star", and resents the fact that a celebrity like Tim Allen can be forgiven by Hollywood for past transgressions (he was convicted and served prison time selling drugs while he was in college) but she still to this day bears the stigma of her porn years.
