Reviews

nadiatownshend There's quite a few negative reviews here and it is quite interesting to see the different opinions and things that people got out of the film. For me I really enjoyed it - it really portrayed the life of an ATC really well and all the intricacies and detail was cool to see - the Director obviously tried to introduce us to the stress, fast-paced world of an ATC and the sort of pressures they are put through. It is enjoyable to watch Cusack's energy - if not a little stressful. Billy Bob Thornton has a cool swagger and devilish charm that draws you in and is great as a stark opposite to that of Cusack's character. The reason I enjoyed this film was for the portrayal of the unique roles of ATC's and the human element of Cusack's evolution in his character as he realized that his lifestyle was terribly unhealthy. The two characters, in the end, learnt much from one another's differences.
blumdeluxe "Pushing Tin" tells the story of a charismatic aircraft controller, who seems to have it all: Success, a beautiful wife and the respect of his friends. When a new controller enters the scene, all of this seems in doubt due to his aura and extraordinary talent, that soon finds the two of them fighting for the lead position in this game.I really have to say that this movie kept me entertained throughout all of its playtime. You really want to know what is about to happen and the producers very sensitively built up the conflict, in order to get the audience emotionally involved and keep the actions more or less plausible. Unfortunately, especially the beginning and the end of the film are very stereotypical Hollywood settings, with very one-dimensional winner-characters and a not so surprising happy end. In my eyes, there would have been potential for an even better film without this will to follow old paths. All in all this is a beautiful little film, perfect for a date night or if you want to get your head free. It takes its plot serious without touching big topics or leaving you depressed.
leplatypus Actually, the movie is about a cheating husband and this isn't the kind of movie that appeals to me. Those scum are already impossible to support in real life so it's wasted time to make them "hero" of fiction. As I know one (a "colleague" of a dear friend), the portrayal is here accurate because those cheaters are indeed shining hypocrites: they benefit the distress of their "prey" to pass for kind humanitarian whereas they care only for their ego and libido! With no surprise, the movie is split in two parts: the exhilaration of cheating and after being consumed, the painful consequences. To anime this drama, the feminine cast beats their male counterpart: Cusack is a smooth actor (not awful, not genius) and Thorton rejoices my list of arrogant, spoiled irritating actors (with Pitt, Walberg, Farell, Foxx). unfortunately, Angie and Kate are underused. Finally, the movie is not really interesting: the good moments are actually showing the outback of New York and great planes animation flying over Manhattan and the WTC!
pilgrimworker I like John Cusack and Billy Bob Thorton. Both are fine actors and I've enjoyed their films over the years. This, however, is a travesty. Easily rates as one of the worst films I ever sat through. It is one of those you keep expecting it to get good and it never does. The characters were annoying and the plot insipid. Angelina Jolie's character has outright repulsive. In fact, there was even moments were you could tell the actors were desperately trying to make a scene work, but couldn't, because the story was garbage.Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
