alstewart9999 Here is another great Kate Hudson movie! She's darling; I love her smile, her sweetness and cute funniness she puts into her character. No wonder the kids fall totally in love with her and want her to raise them! Also, Pastor Dan was just awesome. Good looking, funny, and he was just perfect in the way he had the right balance of Pastor and gentleman! I loved two parts with him in the movie. One was when he said something about her giving him the Heisman! And, two, when he was telling Kate's character that he was a sexy God-loving man0something to that effect. That was just totally cute and I loved that-And her reaction was perfect to what he said. Just perfect I. I don't want to give away anymore, tho. I highly recommend this film. It's funny and beautiful.
Isaac5855 A well-worn comic premise is revived with some success in RAISING HELEN, a watchable family comedy that has the breezy direction of Garry Marshall and a charismatic cast working for it. Kate Hudson stars as Helen Harris, a Manhattan bachelorette who works at a modeling agency who finds her life turned upside down when she is awarded custody of her sister's three children after her sister's sudden death in a car accident. Also thrown into the mix is an underdeveloped romance with a hunky pastor, played by John Corbett (SEX AND THE CITY). The story plays out pretty much as expected though the screenplay attempts to encompass too much. Marshall's direction is strong and Hudson's charm is undeniable. Joan Cusack, as always, steals every scene she's in as Helen's sister Jenny, a tightly-wound supermom who thinks she should have gotten custody of the kids. Helen Mirren (in a refreshing change of pace) and Marshall's good luck charm, Hector Elizondo provide some amusing moments as Helen's two employers during the course of the story. The kids are well-played by Hayden Pannetierre, Abigail Breslin (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE) and Abigail's real-life older brother, Spencer. Like most of Marhsall's films, it's a little too long, but laughter and warmth can be found here.
Gordon-11 This film is about a young woman unexpectedly becoming a mother of three because her sister died in a traffic accident.I find the script weak and unconvincing. The script tries to examine the difficulty of transition from singlehood to motherhood, family tension, trust and childcare issues. The end result is that the film lack direction and wander around aimlessly. It fails to be funny, romantic or dramatic.Acting has to be applauded though. Joan Cusack does a good job to convey a spectrum of emotions, especially envy. Hayden Panettiere is also very convincing as a rebellious young girl.Overall, I find this film boring and lacklustre.
dy158 Helen (Kate Hudson) is living the high life in New York. Attending photo shoots and hitting the hottest clubs, all as part of her job in a modeling agency. In her nephews and nieces' eyes, she is the most coolest aunt they can have. But it halted the moment her sister and brother-in-law were killed in a car accident. And overnight, she became the guardian to their three children. For someone who knows nothing about parenting, she is almost at her wits' end. She wondered why her late sister would trust her doing the job and not their other sister Jenny (Joan Cusack) who is a mother herself.Along the way, we can see how Helen while struggling to keep her job, trying to handle three different children with very different personalities. It was difficult for a woman who is so used to the high life to come back to reality of a sudden, but Helen soon knows her way out.The ending is kind of predictable, but some real-life lessons are there.
