anthony-rigoni Back in 2002, I went to see this movie with my mom and sister. As a kid, I loved watching this movie. But now that I'm 21 years old, I hate this movie. It is never true to the original James M. Barry play, Peter Pan, nor the 1953 Disney movie of the same name. The plot focuses on Jane, Wendy's daughter, who is kidnapped by Captain Hook and his band of pirates at the height of World War II.... Wait a minute! World War II?! It looks like this movie is saying "Forget the story taking place in the 1910's, let's have this movie take place in World War II. Don't be concerned with Nazis and the bombing of London, let's focus on Jane and her adventures in Neverland!" And look how Wendy's trying to make her kids think that Captain Hook and his gang are bombing London. What's wrong with you, Wendy?! You were dignified in the original movie, why are you trying to make the kids forget... (smacks himself) okay, I'm going to wrap up this review before I have a meltdown.Pros: Corey Burton. Heck, if Hans Conreid can do a good job voicing Captain Hook, then Corey Burton can do a good job as well. Cons: Generic music, character inconsistencies, awkward animation, and a plot hole with World War II.
mervclan Okay I think this film was a very good movie it was charming and fun the colours in it are very good unlike in the first one their where maybe a couple of goofs in the first one like captain hook's red belt not being seen in some scenes but in this one its more covered up by his goat Mr Smee was funny like Captain hook hitting him on the head the octopus was funny as well and the characters are very good and effects where very well done unlike in the first one so what make this movie better then first well because the effects colours the characters and the plot 1.its fun then the first one 2. its very funny 3. very well done 4. the characters are less boring 5. no songs numbers not making it too long don't be foiled I love the first Peter Pan a lot but the 2nd one will always be my favorite. I give this a 10 out 10. great job Disney.
spikey-5 A brief synopsis of this film's plot sounds, at first, to be an ideal and suitable sequel to the original and yet ....This film isn't simply bad, it is heart breakingly terrible. The voice casting alone, above the myriad other flaws, completely ruins the film and prevents any suspension of disbelief. The main child characters sound too adult to ignore, and London in the Blitz is apparently a town in the United states judging by the accents and slang. The mindless Americanisms (schmaltzly "I love you's" called out by British troops leaving for battle in a hallmark way, thoughtless rehashing of details from the original and rushed personal development by the lead) further drag it into the mire. The plot is predictable and pedestrian, in that you can almost see the numbers over which it was painted. Heartstring remain untugged, blood remains unstirred and yawns unstiffled. This film contains none of J. M Barries style, appeal or themes, but instead slaps characters with the same name into a bland repeat of the actions and events he wrote, their sequel tactics writ small and emotionless. Even the youngsters at which it is aimed will sneer and loose interest long before the awful teeny band sings its squeaky cacophony over the welcome end credits!
mad4u689 Take this review with a grain of salt, because I am a massive fan of Peter Pan and all things properly based on the James Barrie classic. This sequel, however, made me cringe. I've enjoyed liberal interpretations before - Hook and Finding Neverland, for example - but this movie completely trashed whatever character Peter Pan is supposed to have. Peter Pan is not a hero - he is a mischievous and often forgetful boy. He is entirely selfish and entirely charming, and these are his two flaws. However, in "Return to Neverland," this character of "Peter Pan" is a mere ghost of the complex Barrie creation. Whatever beautiful messages Peter Pan has about nostalgia and childhood, "Return to Neverland" turns them upside down at worst, and simply ignores them at best. The animation wasn't bad, though.
