mariondowning-427-469344 People from around the world have seen this now and so many people must be disgusted that this is based on a real guy who decided to kill his parents for his own gain. I almost wasn't going to review it myself due to the slime factor, but figured he'd hate it if I did and I'm free due to not choosing to get rid of people who love me- so here I am. This movie wasn't totally based on his story because he was no romeo in the romantic sense of the word. More a trying to sweet talk people and pull the wool over their eyes kind of guy. He is so disconnected from reality that you can see it in his eyes. He looks like a kid who has been living on computer games and is unable to look people in the eyes with any clarity at all while asking 'why would I do that?" in response to most questions about the crime. Now that is no Romeo. I bet he tried though and wasn't successful like the smooth talking overly connected guy in the movie who women seemed to fall for so easily. As long as viewers do a little research for themselves and take the movie with a grain of salt if you get to see it, it's OK and brings awareness to these types of things that exist in our society thinking they're smarter than us. I wonder why he tried to get this movie cancelled from syndication for being fake when his whole life was fake so he shouldn't have had a problem with this. I saw it in 2013 with friends from overseas who all thought the real guy had nothing on the actor in the looks department either. So I guess it wasn't real after all in more ways than one.
rbrb This is a riveting film based on true events. A son is accused of murder/attempted murder of his parents and the movie had me engrossed from start to finish. Some of those close to the actual events claim the movie is a very poor depiction, but so far my research has not confirmed that as from what I learn the film is fairly true to what happened. I say that subject to further research and seeing a documentary which apparently gives a better perspective on events. In this movie the players are highly convincing especially the lead actor. The court room scenes are excellent and I am surprised there was not an acquittal as the lack of blood/forensic evidence was crucial and surely ought to have created reasonable doubt.8/10
phd_travel This is a fascinating true life murder movie about the brutal axe murder of a man and attempted murder of his wife played by Lolita Davidovich. Their son Chris Porco is convicted of the crimes. He is shown as a bit of a ladies men with several attractive girls infatuated with him and believing in him. He has financial difficulties and conflicts with his parents and some theft and forgeries are involved. This isn't a 100% clear cut case and the movie leaves things like that. There was no physical evidence tying Chris Porco to the crime scene. Plus his mother later said she believed he was innocent. They kind of showed the detective Sullivan (played by Eric McCormack) on some kind of mission to get Chris especially the way he asked her while she was injured. Lolita Davidovich plays the maimed and suffering mother.Lifetime has taken some liberties. The actor chosen Matt Barr is a blond surfer looking type while the real Chris Porco is dark haired and Mediterranean looking. Glamorizes things a bit but it is a movie not a documentary.Worth a watch.
scerbin One of the worst dramatizations of a true story I have ever seen. Poor script, bad acting, actors, screenplay, etc. It was simply terrible. They took what could have been a great story and ruined it. I only give it a 1 because that was the lowest possible score. Frankly, it should not even get a score. Also, the choice to rewrite the story and fictionalize much of the facts was in my view just dumb. The true story was much better. It was just awful. Don't bother - waste of 2 hours. Watch the documentary that aired after instead. Some of the more interesting facts; such as the husband/wife defense lawyer team were omitted. The actor chosen to play Porco's lawyer was poor suited for the role and fell flat. It was just really, really bad.
