Getting past the possessed auto tire issue, an interesting plot with cheesy acting. It could have been much better with more defined character development and stronger story line.

The first scene of this movie tells us what this movie is going to mean, and that meaning is nothing or rather I should say "no reason". With this in mind were off to our journey of following a killer tire. Yes, you read that right we are following a seemingly sentient tire that goes on a murder rampage starting from small animals to a small community of people. I am not going to go in anymore detail in the movie and start to tell you why I enjoy this movie. I like the way it was shot, for a whole lot of nothing the film actually looks good, the desert atmosphere adds to this film. I feel like if it was shot somewhere else it wouldn't be as good. The cinematography is very smooth, there are no quick cuts, edits or jerky camera movement everything seems to flow very fluidly despite the odd nature of the film. The characters are self aware of the movie, like they aren't characters in it but are watching the events happen from a distance. Half way through this movie your'e probably going to ask yourself "why am I watching this movie", and maybe that's the point (despite the opening saying otherwise) Why do we watch movies? and why do we enjoy them? what makes a movie good or bad? or is it all subjective to the viewer. That is just my interpretation of the movies message, or at the very least the question I asked myself throughout this movie. That being said, it's not for everyone, it's slow, it's odd, and to most meaningless. But if you're in the mood for something experimental, but not off in the deep end check it out.

I saw Rubber a few years ago. If someone asks me what the stupidest movie that I ever saw was, I always regretfully tell them Rubber. When I tell them it's about a killer tire, my friends tilt their head in confusion like a dog would if they heard a loud whistle. I literally get embarrassed that I saw a movie this stupid. Trust me Rubber is not worth your time. I felt dumber after watching Rubber with my boyfriend. I swear some of my brain cells died because I felt less intelligent than I did before I watched it. Years later when the subject of stupid movies come up I still resent my boyfriend to this day! I suppose I always will. However, I would refer this movie to my worst enemy out of annoyance of course but that is all Rubber is really good for.

"Rubber" is as if Samuel Beckett -the Irish playwright, not the character from "Quantum Leap"- wrote a horror movie in the same way that the initial subject seems to only be something shallow and ridiculous but ends up being very thought provoking, brings up some deep meanings, and is really out there. Perhaps I am just over thinking this movie and projecting onto it more dept than was really intended to be in the film in the first place but truly why not? That is what art is for right? Finding some meaning? The opening monologue, nay, the opening scene is brilliant! That whole sequence gives me reason to rate this film highly. If you are not going to watch the whole movie at least watch the entirety of the opening monologue. Please, just go in with an open mind and realize it is a comedy, a dark comedy. It is rather slow paced so do not watch it unless you have the patience for it at the time. You actually have to pay attention or you will be lost more than you already are watching a tire roll around and blow up things with psychokinetic abilities.
