lois-lane33 Was something that Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones liked to say about stuff he didn't like. I agree with him. I think the show SATC was basically a witless t**d of a show in that there was no filtering anything and they actually used the F-bomb in episode titles. I think Kristen Davies is good looking and smart and could have done a lot better than this dumb show that confuses being intelligent with being gross. Kim Cattrall's fist claim to fame was getting loudly screwed in a film about High School under some seats in a large gymnasium. She probably couldn't have done better. The rest of them will probably never be seen from again as they succeeded in grossing out an entire generation of women for several years in a row. Turning a poorly written show into a movie doesn't make it work any better. Like finding hair in your coffee, SATC neither thrills, amuses, nor satisfies.
ithinkimdeck 'Sex and the City,' based on the hilarious, poignant HBO comedy series of the same name, is grossly insulting. In a strong divorce from the series, the movie picks up five years after the series finale - where we find out that each one of the characters have become vapid, soulless versions of their former selves. Now, writer Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), and her friends Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), and Charlotte Goldenblatt (Kristen Davis) walk around New York obsessing over shoes, handbags, and love. Carrie Bradshaw was, at the end of the show, an independent woman - not the needy girl she started out as. The movie turns it's back on Carrie's development as a character, shaping her into the stock romcom lead. Think Katherine Heigl with no charm. She is now painfully unfunny, shallow, and quite possibly retarded. She spends the first half the film setting herself up to have the man whom supposedly loves her jilt her - which he does. The second half of the film, Carrie spends complaining about literally everything, dying her hair brown, and discussing bags and love with a painfully useless, annoying Jennifer Hudson, as Carrie's new assistant Louise from Saint Louis.CARRIE: "Louise from Saint Louis. Oh you brought me back to life." LOUISE: "And you gave me, Louise Vuitton." Yes the writer of "The Real Me" and "A Woman's Right To Shoes" actually wrote this garbage.Lawyer Miranda is now a frigid shrew who swats her deadbeat husband away like a fly every time he tries to get near her - and spends the entire 2.5 hours complaining about how marriage changed her, it made her move to Brooklyn. She is no longer likable, funny, or smart.Meanwhile, housewife Charlotte spends the 2.5 hours prancing around like a little girl, screaming at the top of her lungs, and carrying her confused, Asian daughter around like a dog in a handbag. The problem with continuing Charlotte's storyline on the show is her storyline came to the only logical conclusion it could have had at the end of the show. Now, it' just a retread through old territory. Davis is ultimately given a thankless role in this film. However, it is Samantha who is given the most honest adaptation. While certainly a cartoon version of her former self, Samantha's story revolves around her inability to maintain a monogamous relationship - despite being very much in love. However the payoff is ultimately ruined as Samantha is no longer human. This incarnation of 'Sex' is so incredibly shallow - it basically acts a prop to advertise luxury goods. The most obvious scenes to illustrate this are when Carrie tries on designer wedding dresses for a Vogue shoot, which goes on for an excruciating 10 minutes, followed closely by Carrie and co. going through her closet trying to decide what to take to her new apartment with husband-to-be Big (Chris Noth). The scene is ultimately pointless as she is moving to a closet that is 10 times to the size - which, if you can imagine it - is actually a plot point in a film that will make you feel compelled to throw out every designer label you own. The show was about the importance of following your own trajectory, and self actualization. The film abandons this concept.
Jordan Hunt 'Sex And The City: The Movie' takes place four years after the female foursome finally found themselves and each other in the heart of the Big Apple. While they've moved much further apart in terms of location, as friends they are as close as they ever were.Discussing her legal rights to a penthouse apartment John Prescott, aka Mr. Big, pays for as the couple's home, Carrie casually agrees with John to marry in order to protect her own assets. The wedding is planned to be subtle, but Carrie's minor celebrity status rouses the city of New York, and the ceremony soon exceeds anything remotely near subtle. As the big day looms, Carrie and John's relationship is once again put under enough strain to push to them back to the breaking point. The scene is set for a soul searching character drama worthy of any great episode from the series, but at this point in the character's arcs, their behaviour and actions all too often seem regressive. Carrie and Miranda receive the lion's share of the plot threads, but Carrie still hasn't learn to read between the lines, and Miranda forgets the pain she suffered when she nearly lost her partner the last time she alienated him. Samantha and Charlotte don't face as much strife, and therefore remain more true to the development they achieved during the series' run. It simply becomes hard to sympathise with these characters when we watched them learn their mistakes throughout six years, only to endure the pain of watching the girls repeat them. That being said, is this necessarily a negative? My overall opinion of the show, without prompting accusations of sexism, is that it wasn't really a proponent of feminism so much as it was a depiction of the mistakes women repeatedly made when it came to men. Bearing that in mind, the movie essentially does honour the characters well. The fashion the show was noted for is given is its own starring role in the movie, with an extensive wardrobe of expensive couture and famous names. Though this does skew its demographic more towards females exclusively, it certainly is fascinating to look at.'Sex And The City: The Movie' doesn't quite break the television adaptation mould of playing like a (severely) extended episode, but if it was an episode of the beloved show, it would certainly be among the most acclaimed.
Georgina Eldridge There is not enough time in the world to explain everything that is wrong with this film, so I will make a concise list in an attempt to warn people off: 1) Sarah Jessica Parker and the ginger one are too old, too ugly and in too high a definition to watch for this extended period of time.2) The clothes are ridiculous. They are circus costumes, reminding us of the old adage "money can't buy style" - they might be designer, but they are hideous. And too young for the characters.3) This film is about four females, so vapid and consumerism-driven that one of them would forgo a beautiful apartment based on a small closet.4) According to this film, leaving someone at the alter is much worse than infidelity. The ginger's husband cheats on her. Even considering the fact she is grotesque and an unimaginably horrible person/wife, this is still ADULTERY. They are married for Christ's sake! And she goes back to him in the end because clearly, "it isn't that bad". Meanwhile, a man gets scared and has a poor lapse of judgement regarding his marriage (because his fiancée has sandbagged him at every turn, creating their wedding into something he is afraid of, despite him asking her not to have over 200 guests etc etc) and then changes his mind, but this is THE WORST THING ANYONE HAS EVER DONE.5) They have too much money. All of them. It isn't believable that a lawyer who is married to a bartender can suddenly quit her job without another one lined up, especially when she is obviously spending all her income on designer goods.6) There is a token Chinese adopted child. Because, as we know, adopting foreign children is fashionable.7) There is the very unnecessary, very untalented token black woman - Jennifer Hudson - spouting out drivel, with her ear-attacking songs accompanying the film.8) The women have all slept with over 40 men. They should be social pariahs - no one would actually want to marry someone that disgusting.9) Steve (the adulterous husband) is literally so spineless I felt sick.10) None of them died.11) This film is damaging to society in many ways. Not only does it encourage promiscuity, it encourages women to disregard the male population as men who are only there to pay for things or have sex with. It also encourages them to attempt to act like the men in society, and completely emasculate these men. How women find this sort of thing liberating, I doubt I will ever understand.
