rahuljonathan-nair Yet the film's consistently crackling dialogue and terrific performances from its leads makes it enjoyable despite its obvious bumps. But Shaadi Ke Side Effects belongs to Farhan, who reveals incredible comic timing as he slips into the role of the self-obsessed man-child struggling to cope with change. Steering clear of melodrama even when the script falls prey to it, Farhan plays it effortlessly cool. The film then is easy and breezy, although too long at nearly two-and-a-half hours. I'm going with three out of five for Shaadi Ke Side Effects. Predictable and occasionally misguided, but also hopelessly fun. SHAADI KE SIDE/EFFECTS is more about rediscovering your partner, post marriage. The fact that Saket borrows from real-life instances makes it relatable and identifiable. The connect is tremendous, with the spectator often drawing parallels with his/her life. On the whole, SHAADI KE SIDE/EFFECTS is a delicious take on contemporary relationships. This one's relatable, heart-warming, amusing and thoroughly enjoyable!
namashi_1 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects' has its share of glorious moments & spirited performances working for it, but an erratic screenplay plays a spoilsport. 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects' Synopsis: A complicated relationship develops between a man & woman after they get married & have a baby.'Shaadi Ke Side Effects', at first, seems pro anti-marriage. But, later comes on to its favor. Its an erratic film, that chooses different sides in phases. A consistent mood & pace, is also missing! However, a few light moments cannot be forgotten. The humor in the first-hour is first-rate, even some of its characters, are indeed interesting. How one wishes if Writer/Director Saket Chaudhary's Screenplay had been much stronger. His Direction, on the other-hand, is fair. Cinematography, Editing & Art Design, are standard. Music by Pritam is decent.Performance-Wise: Farhan, now a seasoned actor, dominates the show with an earnest performance. Vidya Balan is good, though her character comes across more as negative than positive. Ram Kapoor is very funny. His scenes stand out. Vir Das hams. Rati Agnihotri & Ila Arun shine in brief roles. On the whole, 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects' is a half-baked fare.
sesht I think a lot of people who've judged this one harshly, and are talking about a good 1st half/bad 2nd half, haven't seen the movie completely. I saw it. Completely. Yes, its long. But I thought it justified its runtime. And no, the 2nd half's not a drag, the 1st half was. The build-up, pre-interval, is 1 meandering, long mess, albeit with a point to make. It does so slowly, and then the events post-interval completely let us know what it was all being built up about. Before I refer to that, let me say one more thing about the 1st half. I thought this was a complete cash-grab based on the first one (Pyar ke side effects), and was gonna review this one by asking its intended audience to go re-watch that one instead of this. Boy was I wrong! Another thing - Vir Das' character being unnecessary, and being just another plot- device to prolong its runtime. Nothing could be farther from the truth. His characterization, and performance, along with Ram Kapoor's, is the anchoring point of the flick. Suffice to say that for now, otherwise a nice movie-going experience might be ruined. Decent production values, pleasant and non-intrusive background and main scores ensure that we never detract from the main plot, simple though it might be. The director ensures the screenplay is tight and adheres to it, where lesser humans might have been tempted to tweak it a little, and get away with that too. It is refreshing to see Akhthar take on strong roles such as these and work hard at them - he's truly a director's actor. Balan's commitment to the craft, as always, is impeccable, and though the movie tries to present a balanced view, it typically is only filmed from the male perspective. In the light of that, Balan has her job cut out, and proves, as always, that she's cut from another cloth altogether. Earthy, endearing, bitchy, mothering, judgmental, flawed - she can move us into perceiving these avatars she dons smoothly from one to the next in the blink of an eye, and though the director needs to share the credit as well, casting cuts it so that he doesn't have to work too hard at it. Another sequel please, and quick; this time from the female perspective? Not too much to ask for, surely!
Paresh Gehi Yes, I walked out. Think about the top 5 movies you have hated... and wished you never watched them... I have seen them all and never walked out. I'm sure if you were to watch this you would put this on top of your list and it will remain there forever... brainless, tasteless, filled with silly stereotypes. Let's put it this way... the only reason I even registered a new IMDb account is only to write this about the movie. Not for one second in the movie will you feel comfortable or even funny. I can't believe Farhan took this up... I don't care who rates this as even 1 star I totally think its unworthy of even that. So much drama can't happen in one's life especially within 2 hours of us watching their lives. Every scene from every movie in Indian cinema where a husband and wife would have fought for what all reasons has been put into this one movie. How a child brings total chaos to their awesome lives... how they have to mold their lives for the child even the BAI (house help) gets SO much footage. Truly the worst movie I ave ever seen.
