Shelter suffers from the whole group of awful dialogue writing, wooden acting (with the exception of a few scenes, I felt like most acting was just slightly above porn quality) and strange edits back and forth to surfing without rhyme or reason and an extremely generic, awfully interruptive soundtrack. The romance is awful as well, the relationship here is weak as well with very little development or chemistry. It has a feel-good ending for those that want a happy ending, and it isn't a sex parade like some movies can be but there are much better movies with better endings and can focus on romance without the sex. It is just plain baffling to me that this movie is getting 9 and 10 ratings.

Shelter is a great film. I'm sad that I just heard about it, wish I knew about it before! It's about love, all kind of love and it's not focused on sex so it's better then most of the LGBT themed movies. I've enjoyed watching it so bad that I'll probably re-watch it again. Like FRIENDS marathon. It shows an independent young man's (Zach's) life, his adventure and talent. What he has done to help his family, how hard he tried to keep everything OK and finally something good (I'd say awesome tho) happens to him. I'll say it's one of the movies you should at least consider watching. And you know for most people LGBT means just having fun and having sex. This movie totally proves it wrong.

This film is without a doubt my favorite film, and I recommend it to everyone that I meet! I especially love the soundtrack, and keep it close to my heart. I play it all the time... when I'm cooking, cleaning, and especially when I'm writing! The songs "More than This" and "Lie to Me" are my personal favorites. I also love the family values that this film portrays, as well as the fact that this film is portrayed in such a grounded way... I honestly feel as though these characters are real people, and that the struggles they face are struggles that many of the viewers can relate to. Great film, highly recommend it!

This Movie is the only one that I have viewed that has gay main characters that contains no signs of them being effeminate, no mention of the "LGBT" community being "supportive", no sign of loss of masculine emotions, and above all that no hint that they had anal sex...at all... It is stated that they "had sex" or were "fucking", but there were none of the traditionally "LGBT" based signs of it. It is actually quite possible that the type of sexual encounter that they regularly engaged in was non-penetrative. This film, if it were watched by members of the "LGBT" community, would be interpreted a different way, they would say it was the traditional "coming out" story, but that couldn't be further from the truth. This movie is about love between to people who have BOTH just discovered what love was. Shaun is supposedly comfortable with his sexuality, but is initially unwilling to admit he is in love with his brother's best friend because, as the movie shows it was probably the first time he was genuinely in love. Labeling this film as "LGBT-Themed" does not give it justice because it relates directly to the homosexuals and bisexuals who purposefully avoid the "LGBT" community. It is by far my favorite movie because it's story directly relates to anyone who has truly and completely fallen in love.
