Alex Willis Probably not many peoples ides of a great film, but I think the film does exactly what it wants and gets the characters and personalities near perfect, capturing every little quirk. Personally knowing people that fit into these roles. (minus the extreme results)Right away I could relate to the people and feel like they could easily be people I know, although not particularly liking them (which I doubt you're supposed to) it makes the film much more believable, and also that much more shocking and darkly very funny.I think you'll get a lot more from this film being from the UK because of the characters and the scenes, it's not a film I can recommend to many sadly, but I personally got a lot of enjoyment and I think all of Ben Wheatley's films have been underrated so far, and have yet to be disappointed with one if his endings. Would also recommend kill list just for its ending, but isn't for the faint hearted
Theo Robertson Every year a director comes along and he's heralded as "The saviour of the British film industry" . Sometimes the hype does come true such as Danny Boyle when he released his low budgets hits SHALLOW GRAVE and TRAINSPOTTING but always an up and coming director appears on the horizon then disappears again . A decade ago it was Shane Meadows and in the last four or five years it was the turn of Ben Wheatley who carry the "He's gonna save the British film industry" torch. Well to be fair Ben has an upcoming film coming out later this year called HIGH RISE with a relatively intriguing and well known cast and one hopes that HIGH RISE is cinematic unlike SIGHTSEERS I've got to be honest here and say the entire look of this movie lets down whatever story there is here . That said it is produced by Channel 4 films which means it has at least one eye on merely being produced for and watched on television but wasn't SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE also produced by Channel 4 ? See how cinematic that ended up as . Here with SIGHTSEERS the lack of budget and ambition means you're watching something rather flat in cinematic terms . The performances are flat as are the darkly comic lines which sort of sabotages the whole point of the film . In summary if you didn't like Wheatley's previous film DOWN TERRACE you probably won't like this one either
buly_boy2007 I you have enough time to waste I will say: go ahead and watch this. I was not impressed at all and the only thing that kept me watching until the end was the British humor that is well known. The movie is absurd, it tries to be funny but it fails sometimes. It tries to be normal, but it definitely isn't normal and what the story suggests is quite very Utopian. The characters are very far away from the society and if the movie would have been a little bit more funnier, maybe, just maybe, we would have had a better vision about this one.Maybe it's just my opinion but I will definitely not want to watch something like this again.
riley kerr Never trust a bearded man with a caravan...The dark comedy darkened throughout the scene with random people intervening on their road trip Some parts of the film did in fact make me laugh however as it was bizarre it wouldn't be one of the films I would advise, and it would be a waste of time. The unrealism was astonishing. Chris Oram who was basically seen as being a psycho (in his own written film) turned his girlfriend Tina also into a psychopath. The film includes a variety of unusual and catastrophic scenes. Who would have guessed that it is she who caused the main death at the end.Every death was an accident...
