Leofwine_draca SONIC IMPACT is another cheap and cheesy thriller from bargain bin director Rodney McDonald. The story is once again about criminals hijacking a plane and those on board attempting to fight back; it was perhaps made in response to CON AIR. Most embarrassingly, it borrows all of the big FX sequences from one of those AIRPORT movies of the 1970s! James Russo and Ice-T slum it as the tough heroes who go up against a master criminal, played by the singularly unimposing Michael Harris. The story that ensues has fitful action sequences but cheesy acting and very predictable plotting, leading to a seen-it-all-before feel.
rayblueline Given its obviously limited resources, Sonic Impact does what it sets out to do pretty nicely. Which is, of course, to elevate the blandness of the "Die Hard" subgenre "...On A Plane" to new heights. Pardon the pun. Sonic Impact is derivative in every aspect, but proves that you can be derivative of the 20-million dollar big boys with a couple grand. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; take Sonic Impact as the most straight-faced of compliments.
Alan Deikman (Alan-40) We fall into a trap of predictability with this one. Even if you haven't seen "Passenger 57" you just KNOW as soon as you see the prisoners being loaded on a 747 that they are going to break loose and raise all sorts of havoc. And you just KNOW the guy who caught the bad guy in the first place is going to be involved in catching him again. And you just KNOW some pretty female passenger is going to be involved. This time its Brittany Daniel, who I last saw as a temporary love-interest in Dawson's Creek. More than just a pretty face, we should see more of her. All said, I thought the movie was pretty well done. It kept up a good pace and the bad guy carries the movie the way he is supposed to. The hero is boring and looks and sounds alltogether too much like a Bruce Willis knockoff.
BOB AUDET Remember that immortal sequel AIRPORT 1975? No, well the plot concerned a 747 that experiences a mid-air collision and the flight crew is killed. Now, we have a dangerous(?) terrorist being transported on board a 747 when the usual mayhem ensues...plane suffers engine difficulties, terrorist and other prisoners escape, seize plan, kill pilot and cause structure damage to the cockpit, etc.Anyway, an intrepid FBI agent who is also an ex-Navy SeAL, volunteers to board the plane in mid-air, take out the terrorist and his buddies and save the 747 and its passengers. My suggestion, rent AIRPORT 75 and PASSENGER 57 and alternate every 15 minutes or so between the 2 movies and you'll get the idea behind this one!
