Bezenby Upon visiting Greece, I'd imagine most folk would expect Mediterranean charm, olives, very hairy men, white buildings and loads of islands. What you probably wouldn't expect is to be attacked by an invisible screaming dinosaur, I'd imagine. This is what happens to Antonio Casas and his group when they think they've located a stash of hidden gold in the hills of Greece. Antonio and his two ex-war buddies are refreshingly honest and honourable with each other despite the stash being worth millions, and everyone here involved seems to be genuinely nice people, including Antonio's daughter Soleded Miranda, and some other guy's girl Ingrid Pitt. The only person slightly off mood wise is the maid of the house they are staying at, who is all doom and gloom about the cave they think the gold is in.Very soon the team discover an ancient mummy, and two seemingly petrified eggs. One egg breaks open in the case (and what's inside vanishes) while the other, rather unwisely, is left on a mantelpiece above a roaring fire. Not the best idea that. While most of the group are at the house eating dinner or whatever, something very loud and invisible carves up the guy studying the mummy. People soon twig very quickly to what's going on (except the maid, strangely), so soon we have a situation where the house is under siege from an unseen deadly foe. How do you take on something you can't see? The group here, for the most part, actually don't act that stupid for a horror film and are really supportive with each other. There's no back stabbing or double crossing about the gold either which makes the characters more likeable. It's slow to get going, but there's a lot of atmosphere in the first half of the film as the maid goes on about the cursed cave and we see locals standing at the top of hills way off in the distance, too scared to come any closer. You do get some rough special effects but this is a cheap Euro horror film, but then again the ending seem to me to be more like something out of the eighties. Future tragic Jess Franco star Soledad Miranda does a bit of Greek dancing for the lads too, and Ingrid Pitt does some sixties dancing, which leads one of the older men to remark about how it's good that the young can be free and happy, when they in their youth were 'dancing around bullets'. What's with the mature, likeable characters?
Wizard-8 In a way you've got to sort of admire the chutzpah of these Spanish filmmakers for making their movie monster INVISIBLE for almost the entire movie - that's one way to stretch out a special effects budget! What is real disappointing, however, is that when the monster does become visible, it's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment. Actually, the monster isn't among the real problems to be found in this movie. The real problem with the movie is that it is both very talky and very slow. There's very little in the way of horror sequences, not just from the fact it takes almost a half hour before the first true horror sequence unfolds. The movie also has a weird feel to it, coming across more like an early 1950s low budget horror movie instead of a mid 1960s movie. Oh, the movie has a little unintentional amusement, ranging from the sloppy work done by supposed professional archaeologists to how the characters seem mighty slow to realize that a body count is escalating. But other than isolated moments like those, the movie is a forgettable bore.
ma-cortes This is a cool Spanish horror film from the 6os finely directed by Jose Antonio Nieves Conde , a slick craftsman . A group of isolated people expert on archeology in the Greek mountains formed by three adventurers "André" (Antonio Casas), "Asilov" (James Philbrook) and "Dorman" (Jose Bódalo), seeking a hidden treasure in a cave in a remote rural area of Greece . Accompany them in their search "Pete" (Arturo Fernandez), a hired driver in Athens, "Sophia" (Ingrid Pitt), the Asilov lover , and "María" (Soledad Miranda), daughter of "Andre" . Ignoring the warnings from local residents, who claim that the cave is cursed, and following an old map, "André", "Asilov" and "Dorman" use dynamite to open unexplored caves. They set off a cave explosion , one blast exposes two major prehistoric eggs that are apparently petrified . They are menaced by an invisible shrieking dinosaur that had been buried for eons . "André" leads one to the cabin where he is staying in the care of a local employee, "Calliope" (Lola Gaos). The egg opens and escapes inside a prehistoric monster invisible beeps awful, capable of causing death. As a dinosaur egg hatches and out lashes an invisible predator .Thrilling film in low budget plenty of chills , suspense , screams and lots of blood . I admire creative effort to keep budget down , but this time is too little . The invisible monster is an original and imaginative resource that lets you play with a certain ambiguity and , at the same time, contributes mightily to create an oppressive ambient and haunting atmosphere . Predictability of the plot, written by Americans named Gregg Tallas and Sam X Abarbanel outlining causes of settings and characters , but not hidden at any time a script perfectly constructed, that transcends its status monster movie to approach the field of cosmic terror. Science has a role in the development of anecdotal history, full of mythological references and legendary as the legend of the Golden Fleece , the monster as a symbol of moral punishment of greed . You'll have to use your imagination as archaeologist are slashed to bits by the show terror carried out by the estrange creature . The spectator does not know at any time the dimensions and physical characteristics of the monster , but the abominable sound emitted is more than enough to imagine the horror it represents. This is an effective and simple movie ; it results to be an acceptable Spanish-American co-production with a Spaniard all-star-cast such as Arturo Fernandez , Lola Gaos , Francisco Piquer and Jose Bodalo-Antonio Casas , both of whom played many Spaghetti Western ; in addition a B Series American star as James Philbrook . Furthermore two cult female stars as the British Ingrid Pitt , Hammer's ordinary , and Spanish Soledad Miranda , Jesus Franco's usual . Passable cinematography in black and white by notorious cameraman Manuel Berenguer who photographed several American movies , though being necessary a right remastering ; it was filmed at Samuel Bronston studios and on location in Hoyo de Manzanares , La Pedriza , Madrid . Intriguing and suspenseful musical score by the classical composer called Luis De Pablo . The motion picture efficiently produced by Gregorio Sacristan was compellingly directed by Jose Antonio Nieves Conde , a director of great quality . He was a drama expert (Surcos, El Inquilino , Marta , Casa Manchada) , religious cinema (Balarrasa, Cotolay) , Comedy (Don Lucio Y Hermano Pio) and even terror as¨ Sounds of horror¨ , one of the least known and appreciated films but is nowadays best considered .
unbrokenmetal Professor Andre and a bunch of friends are searching a cave for a treasure from the days of Ancient Greece. What they find is much older than even that: a prehistoric monster, invisible (!) but stalking them day and night, uttering a horrible scream (see movie title). Everybody in this movie is heroic (although one coward type is what you'd expect for the genre), so the rest is almost a competition who can sacrifice himself first for the escape of the others.Even if it began a bit silly - I mean, the actors stand 5 meters away from the dynamite explosion and don't bother to take cover - it got better and better! The invisible enemy is quite effective, and the movie is old-fashioned in a positive sense, more like a horror classic from the 1930s than the 1960s. Good cast including the one and only Soledad Miranda, Ingrid Pitt of Hammer fame, plus experienced character actors such as Jose Bodalo ("Django") and Antonio Casas ("A Gun For Ringo").
