one-nine-eighty I was drawn to this film, or at least my girlfriend was, upon seeing that Misha Collins was in it - she loves him in 'Supernatural' and has practically converted me into a fan too. But how would he stand up by himself, without those Winchester boys and Crowley to support him? The answer is, not that bad actually. This is your typical low budget Sy-Fy film which uses CGI to drive a usually weak plot forward. A group of scientists unearth a skeleton and a piece of machinery near Stonehenge. They accidentally trigger a countdown to the apocalypse, potentially dooming all of mankind. Collins plays Jacob, a misunderstood scientist trying to save everything. In truth he plays it in a very Castiel tongue in cheek way (just without the wings and grace). Torri Higginson plays Kaycee who delivers in an unoffensive manner, much like the rest of the cast, there aren't many moments when the acting is cheesy - it's more a case that they do their best without over or under acting. There were blatant plot holes and gaffes galore, the CGI was shockingly bad at times and it was obviously filmed in America rather than anywhere near England. It feels more like a low budget student film rather than your usual Sy-Fy trash, which actually surprised me. I watch a lot of rubbish films and I expected this to be one of those, but in truth it was slightly classier than some of the other rubbish I watch. It's got a little bit of action, a little pace, and enough of a plot and script to keep me entertained. For this reason I'm giving it a 5 out of 10 - not offensive rubbish that I'd avoid, but likewise not a noteworthy addition to the cinematographic world.
joihn bailey Now don,t get me wrong I like a good adventure as much as the next person, aliens prophecies, conspiracies etc. so the story line was OK.BUT everything else PUHLEASE!Only 3 actors had English accents, wrong rank insignia, mountains on Salisbury Plain (not the last time I went},a gigantic English primary school built like no others, complete with basket ball hall!,all vehicles left hand drive including a Humvee.Stonehenge obviously computer generated with wrong grass(north American grass is different) and as you say over there, much, much more but I can,t go on.It must have cost a couple of million dollars spoiled by a few cents.Sorry one last thing.A US general turns up, takes charge on British soil,at one of our most precious monuments and a World Heritage Site to boot,I don,t think so.
tmaxwell-9 Yes, there was action, and no it wasn't well thought out. OK, that covers the review... (read the other reviews for details) NOW... My issue with this movie is the use of the actors as targets in a shooting gallery. OK, so where is it written that all bad guys have guns (even automatic weapons in England where a sharpened screwdriver is considered a deadly weapon) -BUT- All the good guys NEVER have guns. No, it doesn't matter if they are being shot at. Good guys ALWAYS run past every single gun, and try endlessly to "talk down" the bad guys with guns. This insane plot rule drives me crazy. In the movie, despite the good guys KNOWING they are going after "Terrorists...with guns", they just do not pick up a weapon... not even a sharpened stick. Naturally this results in the good guys ALWAYS getting shot, sometimes over and over again. Yet they never willingly pick up a gun. Same kind of thinking that results in schools, shopping centers and public places of all kinds with "no carry" gun policies being turned into favored terrorist shooting ranges. Perhaps i'm being too harsh, after all it IS supposed to be England after all, with it's "no defending yourself under any circumstances" attitudes, policies and laws. Still, the characters in this movie drop like flies with varying shocked expressions on their faces. After all, everyone knows the best way to deal with terrorists is to talk meaningfully to them. Right? Go ahead, try that, you just may say something memorable that will be remembered forever... on your gravestone.
nibland The story in it self could have potential, but did not quite do it for me.First of all, where was the body discovered? I did not see that any archeologists found any human remains. And how did the surveillancecamera mounted on top of the Stonehenge survive the EMP's, when it manage to drain the power of two cars later in the film? To many sloppy mistakes in the script concerning these minor details.I also think that there were too many clichés about the American military and that the commanders must be irrational and close to stupid to lead the most powerful militaryforce in the world. I agree with some others in here that the acting sometimes were good, but also very bad by some actors as well. I give the movie a plus for trying as hard as possible to sty serious throughout the movie.
