garbstanley The Abyss is one of Jim Cameron's lesser known efforts and one can see why. Its rather long, most of it is underwater(probably 90%) and the subject just might not be of interest to most people. The film itself is more known for its behind the scene shenanigans. The plot takes a bunch of civilian divers who go down to the trenches of the Ocean to recover a lost submarine. What they don't realize is that there are far more powerful forces at play here. The original version of the film was derided on release but a director's cut with additional footage sets most of the detractors straight. The last few minutes of this director's cut are rather good so watch this version of the film. Still, the film is just alright and nowhere on the level of say The Terminator or Titanic.
adonis98-743-186503 A civilian diving team is enlisted to search for a lost nuclear submarine and face danger while encountering an alien aquatic species. The Abyss is 29 years old and still looks as beautiful and fresh as it was released in 2018, the film has some very good perfomances from both Harris and Mastrantonio but the one who in my opinion steals the show was Michael Biehn and having him as the villain was brilliant. James Cameron also started developing the right technology that he used in T2 and this movie showcases that since the aliens both the underwater ones and the one that was made out of water look so beautiful and just stunning. The Abyss is an underrated masterpiece!!!! (10/10)
wahn06 Giving this boring, too long piece of crap 3 stars for the visual effects of 1989, for which somebody out of their mind gave it an Oscar. Otherwise, it deserves 0.
sukhib I only just saw this movie because it was directed by James Cameron. I was expecting maybe a little too much, the film was over long and boring. There is not that much too the movie, but it does have a fairly decent story line. Michael Biehn & Ed Harris are both solid in their roles. But the movie overall is a huge disappointment, if you are a James Cameron fan. I would not watch this ever again.
