Alone among assassins, Jack is a master craftsman. When a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, he vows to his contact Pavel that his next assignment will be his last. Jack reports to the Italian countryside, where he holes up in a small town and relishes being away from death for a spell. The American is another huge waste of time by George Clooney plus this film was so boring and slow that it was basically just more of a drama than a thriller, action like they tried to sell it with the marketing department.

Nothing happens in this movie until the last 10 minutes. It's all just basically Clooney with naked women and some talking in a cafe.

A good rule for movies is that more nudity = less action (and thus, less plot.) That rule holds true here. The movie has plenty of naked women (and a naked George Clooney or two). However, George Clooney's 2- named character escapes Sweden (later, we learn why) to sunny Italy so he can tell his boss he's quitting. By that point, we realize he's a paid assassin, so we all know he's not "quitting." All of the action is in the last 10-15 minutes (10, I think.) Until then, he sits in a cafe, talks with a priest, builds stuff (we do not yet know what until the last 10 minutes), and visits a local prostitute he has the hots for . . . but nothing happens (except nudity.) This movie was made because it has George Clooney; I can't think why he wanted to make it.

I'm very surprised that I actually made it to the end of this extremely slow-moving and boring film. The beautiful Tuscany scenery, complete with the romantic small village life were wasted on this thin plot without payoff. Clooney's ultra-serious character would be creepy, if it wasn't for his rugged and distinguished good looks. The film begins with Clooney and the obligatory love interest being the apparent victim of a sniper attack. The scene ends in two deaths, and delivers the first mystery: What happened here? Sadly the film drags on almost to the end with not much of an explanation. Is it espionage? High class murder for hire? Or is it just a game without rules or objective played with the audience who foolishly "invested" in this turkey? - I'm used to giving glowing reviews for movies I enjoyed. This one was a real disappointment, one of the most unnecessary pieces of entertainment Hollywood has served up as a so-called thriller.
