tbills2 The Big Hit isn't really a big hit. This movie should have been called The Medium Hit.I love Mark Wahlberg. In 1998, Wahlberg, hot urban bad boy rapper with a sweet side attempts to once and for all shed his image he gained as Marky Mark with the Funky Bunch by dying his hair red and totally flipping the script on fans in The Big Hit as Melvin Smiley, a hot urban bad boy hitman with a sweet side. Good stuff. Lou Diamond Phillips, Christina Applegate, Lela Rochon and China Chow make out the hot young main cast. Skilled dramaman Phillips shows his comedic chops like I can't recall seeing from him before in The Big Hit. (the Tracebuster scene) LDP is good and funny and he should do more comedies. Little Miss Christina Applegate is the hottest little thing ever in The Big Hit. If I'm Melvin, I'm gonna spend most my time screwing Christina, and like, being nice to her and stuff, and I'm not gonna invest much of myself slaying and kidnapping teenagers. That shit's laaaaammme. The lovely and the fierce Lela Rochon is seriously hot in The Big Hit. I like her. I like her, a-lot. She's really not in it enough. Check Lela out in Boomerang or Waiting to Exhale if you want more, but who doesn't already know that. She's in tons of other stuff too. Sexy schoolgirl China Chow while cooking turns up the heat in The Big Hit in more ways than one! (her outfit plus the chicken glazing scene) Haha! Good stuff. Sorry. China Chow is really hot. She has a great name. I don't know what else she's been in.The Big Hit is really good. It's 20 years old.
Robert J. Maxwell I understand that this is a comedy and it's not to be taken seriously when Mark Wahlberg shoots an obnoxious high school kid through the head.Okay, it's a comedy, and it has a lot of action and explosives and wisecracks, but it's not really too funny. The most amusing scenes have Wahlberg and his Jewish girl friend (Applegate) being visited by Applegate's parents. They discover that he's a shagetz and they go ape. ("Look, you seem like a nice German and Irish fellow -- but you're not laying hands on my DAUGHTER!" Something like that.) One of the running jokes is that Wahlberg has an overdue videotape from the store. It is intimated that the movie is silly and trivial. The movie is "King Kong Lives" and I resent the aspersions cast on it. "King Kong Lives" is silly, true, but boasts one magnificent performance -- by myself, as an extra.Perhaps that's one of the reasons I never found myself laughing and consider the film to be far from "hilarious." However, it's necessary to take into account the target audience. Take away the violence, the F bombs and the M bombs, and you have a Bob Hope comedy, specifically "Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number," in which Hope, the bourgeois husband, tries desperately to hide the succulent Elke Sommers from his wife an family. What I'm trying to say is that the target audience seems to be kids in late adolescence. They should get a kick out of it, along with adults whose sense of humor isn't concordant with my own.
edwagreen Inane farce regarding a hit man whose girlfriend is in debt. He therefore decides to kidnap a Japanese young woman, not knowing that her millionaire father is really bankrupt, and that the kidnapped girl is the goddaughter of his crime boss.To add to this nonsense is the extra comic relief brought about by Elliot Gould and Lainie Kazan, as the girlfriend's Jewish parents. Kazan, a riot, is against marriage for the couple as the Wahlberg character is Catholic.Lou Diamond Philips is the heavy here. We have the usual explosive scenes along with periodic car chases.Fun, but quite silly.
david-sarkies When approaching this movie you must take a light hearted look at it. The Big Hit is not meant to be a serious movie and if taken as such then you probably won't enjoy it. Fortunately I read a few reviews of the movie before seeing it and I knew what to expect, so I am thus warning others. It is a great movie if you don't take it seriously, otherwise it sucks. The Big Hit is what I would term as a comic book movie. The title is drawn in a comic book style, the characters dress brightly and the scenes stand out. Bright colours are used in many parts of the movie making it stand out. The Big Hit is not a dark serious movie, it is light hearted and is incredibly funny if taken as such. The movie is about a hit man (Mark Whalberg) who is basically a nice person. He has two girlfriends who take advantage of him constantly. He is easily led and his partners are constantly worming him out of money. Then one of them decides to do a little job of his own and kidnaps the daughter of a failed filmmaker. As it turns out, the filmmaker is the friend of their boss (Robert Avery) and the nice hit-man is accused of being the mastermind behind the plot.I quite enjoyed the Big Hit. It has a satirical look at action movies, and then it is simply a good laugh with lots of action, and it is far from being slow.
