jellopuke This movie is going to seem dated as heck due to the style and over the top performances, but it has some great moments and a farcical storyline that works well in places, not so much in others. Worth seeing for Price and Lore fans and anyone that liked the old style Hammer style movie.
Paul Magne Haakonsen I like the work of Vincent Price, as any avid horror fan would do. However, I have not seen "The Comedy of Terrors" before recently, and I wasn't even familiar with its existence. I found it, saw that Vincent Price was in it, so of course I had to sit down and watch the movie. This is a dark comedy with a twist, and the movie is driven by both having a fair enough storyline, which differs from Vincent Price's usual work, but also by having a good gallery of characters. While this is not the best of Vincent Price's work, for sure. the movie did still entertaining enough. And it was interesting to watch him in a movie such as this."The Comedy of Terrors" had a good cast ensemble, which performed quite well and brought their characters to life nicely on the screen.Hardly a Vincent Price classic movie, but still entertaining enough for what it turned out to be.
stones78 Someone on the forum for this film made a nice comment a while back, for which I'll paraphrase: he or she said something how the film "Airplane" was for airports as "Comedy of Terrors" is for undertakers. I couldn't have said it any better myself, even though I would've liked a few creepy scenes, considering the fine horror ensemble, and even a cat thrown in there, but this was 100% comedy. You know the cast by now, so I'll skip those details, but Vincent Price and Peter Lorre had fine chemistry together. If I knew this was a pure comedy and nothing to do with horror, I probably would've skipped the film, but I didn't know Price and Lorre could be just as entertaining as they were in "Tales of Terror", even though the latter is a better film. The only real negatives I can think of is Joyce Jameson's annoying singing, even though I know it was done on purpose, but it got tedious, as did Basil Rathbone's routine of rising from the dead. I don't think this film did too well at the box office, as plans for a sequel were nixed, but there are some truly funny moments by veteran horror actors that may be worth seeing.
Hitchcoc I think I may have seen this in high school. It features a group of masters of horror: Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and Basil Rathbone. They take turns out-mugging one another, as they portray a crooked undertaker, his partner, and his victim. Rathbone is the biggest scene-stealer, quoting "Macbeth" and taking forever to die. It is strictly a comedy with a hard edge. Everything revolves around Price who abuses everyone, making those around him serve his whims. He is a drunk and a shyster. There is also a blonde woman who Price had promised to make an opera singer. She has about as bad a voice as one could put in a human being. The plot is clever and the direction by Jacques Tournier is so much fun.
