FountainPen Fab on all points. See it, many times, as I have done.
Raul Faust You know, after having a bad time in finding this blu-ray, I wanted the movie to be at least average. However, it is not. "The Deep" tells a story about a couple that goes for diving and find some objects that seem to be jewelry from an old ship. That might be it. Some Haitians are interested in the treasure as well, so they try to impede the couple from getting it. In my point of view, the plot is completely pointless. The voodoo scene, which could be the ONLY good one, is just regular. A weak directing that sees no use in putting a background sound makes the "suspenseful" scenes just poor. Also, the fighting scenes are really really lame, and I wondered myself how director let that happen. Furthermore, the movie feels overlong, given that the story is uninteresting and characters are just lifeless. The only thing to be admired is the occasional beautiful scenario. Other than that, "The Deep" is just a waste of time.
weblynx-1 I don't know why IMDb is carrying such a negative review of this classic film on the front page. But I'm happy to note a lot of very positive reviews thereafter. Not much more I can add, but this is one of the classics of the golden era of film-making, without the CGI, hyped-up violence, obsessive sexuality and general lack of any kind of emotional depth of current popular cinema. While being in that category (popular cinema), this film is still great entertainment, often going pretty "deep". And there are of course the bonuses of the legendary Robert Shaw, the unforgettable beauty of Jacqueline Bisset, a young Nick Nolte full of promise, a wonderful score by John Barry, and plenty of evocative scenery, both below and above sea level.
AaronCapenBanner Based on Peter Benchley's novel, this film(directed by Peter Yates) tells the story of a vacationing couple(played by Nick Nolte & Jacqueline Bissit) who, while scuba diving in Bermuda, stumble upon an old sunken ship containing treasure and also strange vials, both of which are wanted by local treasure hunters(played by Robert Shaw & Eli Wallach) and also local crime figures(led by Louis Gossett Jr.) The couple find themselves in increasing danger , as they try to claim the treasure, and escape with their lives.Good underwater photography and some exciting action sequences cannot overcome an overlong, tedious, and at times lurid film, though Jacqueline Bisset in a wet shirt and bikini is undoubtedly the film's highlight!
