After catching his wife cheating on him with the pool guy, a disturbed dentist (Corbin Bernsen) goes on a murderous rampage. He's determined to root out decay wherever he sees it. Gory and violent with lots of dark humor. Not for all tastes, obviously, but if you're seeking out a movie about a killer dentist, you're probably halfway to enjoying it already. It's directed by Brian Yuzna and written by Stuart Gordon, so if you like the Re-Animator movies chances are you will like this. I thought it was okay but missing something I can't quite put my finger on. Mark Ruffalo is in this, years before he was a thing. I doubt he puts this on his resume.

Dr. Alan Feinstone has everything! A beautiful wife, an amazing job, he's rich. There's just one little problem; he's absolutely insane. After seeing his wife seduce the pool boy, he goes on a hygiene mission to rid the world of "moral decay". He does this by ruining his patients molars, extracting their teeth, and killing a few members of his staff. When a young girl shows up to have her braces removed, she finds she is the only one at the dental office. It isn't too long before she discovers that Alan is nuts, and she has to find a way to escape his evil dental plans.The Dentist is a very good horror movie with quite a few comedic moments. Watching Alan go on rants about moral decay and his one liners said to the patients before he starts ruining their teeth. There are of course many cringe worthy moments. Almost everyone hates going to the dentist, so to see and hear the drill sounds is bad enough without the fact that he is using it to hurt the patients. The acting and filming location are two strong points to The Dentist as well. Corbin Benson plays the loony dentist to perfection , and the rest of the cast does very well. The dental office setting is very good as well because of the various rooms he hides his victims in, and you would never think of a clinic being an unsafe place. Good stuff. The ending wasn't all that great for me, a bit disappointing. And there was never an explanation as to why he was so crazed. He snaps completely when he see's his wife Brooke cheating, but clearly he had problems way before that. Overall a very good campy horror movie that has just the right level of gore and laughs. Check it out.7/10

This would have been so much fun to see in a theater, back in 1996. There is a guilty pleasure corner of my movie taste which really appreciates really well done shocker movies."The Dentist" is panned sometimes probably because people usually have strong feelings over dental matters. Maybe the ADA launched a campaign against it, since dentists report they have to apologize for this movie and for "The Marathon Man" (which only has one scene comparable to the many in "The Dentist").It's amazing to note that according to the trivia page, the movie was shot in 21 days. Of course, post production can take longer than movie shooting sometimes and the editing for "The Dentist" is picture perfect. The quick cuts heighten the tension so much that in the scene where the Dentist "takes care" of his wife there's only two quick cuts showing what is happening. The rest is left to our very fertile imaginations! Corbin Bernsen was a good choice for the role since he has lots of experience playing psychologically "off" characters and he completely sold the obsessive compulsive aspects of the dentist.For me the pacing of the movie was just right. The film makers reveal the wife's naughtiness in just the right way. All of the characters in the dental office look like they are actual people working in a real office. There's lots of tension while they are dealing with impatient people awaiting the dentist's arrival. Meanwhile the dentist is off on the cusp of a huge psychotic breakdown! Unlike so many movies of this genre, the script is very very tight. All the victims fall into the dentist's trap in very calculated ways. Two law enforcement types even get involved in a little subplot that ends up creating a shocker of a showdown near the end.Definitely not for the faint of heart or the dental-phobic but a real roller coaster ride and heavily recommended for fans of intelligent gorefests.

I felt myself enough adult,and educated,to watch this,and after I finished the first watch,I don't know why but today I've seen this again.It was maybe the 4-th time I've watched this,but this film still works very well.This is a real 90-s,USA-classic,a must see for all drama,and horror-crime-thriller interested person.It was award winner,but this is not as well know movie as some others.With only 2-and a half million as budget,this was low budget,but all of the main creators put passion to this.Corbin Brensen keeps the eye of the viewer,but I also loved the others,all of them in this film.You have enough reasons to see this movie,do not miss the opportunity.9/10
