The GooniesThe energy and chemistry among the characters is the strength of this genuine feature that even though has its heart in the right place fails completely on managing to keep the plot on track. Richard Donner needed to work a bit harder on projecting the anticipated vision on screen that is originally written by Chris Columbus and Steven Speilberg. Steve Austin and Josh Brolin are convincing on their parts but the real gem moments are when the group shares it as their mundane conversations. The Goonies is written with high hopes that needed a better editing and detailing on script along with better execution to create the anticipated impact on screen.

Full disclosure: I wasn't a Goonie generation. However, I decided to watch it upon seeing good ratings and plenty of good reviews. The possibility of watching another 80s adventure classic like Stand By Me was highly intriguing...But movie did not live up to those expectations. At all. The beginning was decent enough though, but soon after enormous plot holes and a lot of shouting mixed with unnecessarily loud background music killed my interest. And that's how it remained for the rest of the movie. It made me so puzzled because how can such a movie get such good reviews? I've seen some wonderful movies and series who were bashed big time even though their supposed plot holes were nothing compared to those in Goonies (I mean, how come nobody in 350 years wondered what was at the bottom of that wishing well?!).The only explanation I found is that you can like Goonies only if it was your childhood movie. I tried watching it at age 22, and it simply did not work.

I had the displeasure of watching this on TV. People were talking about how it was a classic, so it immediately got me excited for the film, because I usually love classics before the 90's.Anyway, I'm still a bit confused why this is considered a classic. Apparently, if you have a film with unlikable characters that always scream, you are considered to be a quality film.People calling this a classic is like comparing it to Indiana Jones, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Escape From New York, ET, hell, even Star Wars...believe me, this film deserves no place in that category at all.I'm going to expand on this review later, but if you go to see this, just bear in mind what I said about unlikable, screaming characters...
