adonis98-743-186503 A pair of brothers stumble upon a mysterious hole in their basement that leads to the darkest corridors of their fears and nightmares. The Hole is directed by Joe Dante the man behind classics such as Gremlins and Gremlins 2 unfortunately tho this movie wasn't as good as i expected it to be plus the whole film felt to me kinda lost since it didn't know what it really wanted to be. Was it an adventure? a comedy? a sci-fi? or a horror flick? Cause it was neither thrilling or scary enough to say so for sure. The acting was good but the story? Was disappointing. (5/10)
nilen-51573 Kind of normal horror theme. Kids find and accidently released a ancient horror that hunts them. Its ok. The thing I found stupid in this movie was the old man Carl. He had lived at the house with the hatch and had locked it. Then he kinds of leave it like that moves away to adifferent part of the city. He dont really hides the hatch and leaves the keys in a box just next to the hatch. He is then angry at the kids for opening the hatch and blame them for releasing the evil. This part is kind of stupid and feel like a cheap way to get the story to start. This made me lose interest in the rest of the movie when I was seeing it.
Danii Disaster The first part of the movie was excellent. They were very good at building up the suspense. The ending was a bit lame, though. It's something you would expect from a Disney flick. The final scene just cancelled out the whole movie for me, basically. You cannot take it seriously anymore. Which is O.K., because it's the end anyway and there's nothing more to come. While it's definitely a family friendly movie, I think one could argue about the rating (12). Children are different; some 12-year olds might think it's not scary enough, while others might get overwhelmed by it.I am generally not a horror fan, and the only type of horror movies I like are ones that are not too gory, violent, or disturbing. I prefer psychological horror as opposed to slashers, so this one was right up my street. It's "mild horror" (mostly thriller and mystery really). In a word: I liked it precisely because it was not very scary. I think it's wrong to say that it's strictly a teen movie. I'm well past my teens, and have enjoyed it, so...
Tss5078 Kids get a bad rap in films. It is assumed because of their age and lack of experience, that they are less talented than adult actors. While in many cases this is true, it is not the rule. Some people I spoke to, immediately had no interest in The Hole, because of it's young cast. Right away they were saying this is going to be a rip off of Goosebumps and didn't even give it a chance. The film may not have been the scariest film I've ever seen, but it had a great backstory, a lot of suspense, and some very talented young actors. Those kids play Dane and Lucas, who are forced to move from the city to the country, to hide from an abusive father. The boys are miserable and decide to explore the old house the family has rented. What they find is a giant hole in the basement, with seemingly no bottom. As they continue to be fascinated by the hole, things in this small town, and especially in this old house just continue to get stranger and stranger, leading to a tremendous ending that will teach the boys, that sometimes the only thing you can do is face your fears. The star of this film is Nathan Gamble, who has done a lot for someone so young. I've seen him in a bunch of things and weather he's playing Commissioner Gordon's son in The Dark Knight, or the young activist in Dolphin's Tale, Gamble just has this way of always pulling at the audiences heart strings. Once again he's this cute, innocent kid, who's been traumatized by years of abuse, yet he still manages to face his fears, unleashed by the hole. I've seen plenty of films where kids in this situation just run away and hide, but that's not his style, and that's part of why this movie isn't a Goosebumps story. The bottom line, I think The Hole will appeal to Science Fiction fans more than Horror fans, despite the fact that it's labelled as Horror. The young cast is refreshingly energetic, curious, and eager, all things that will become contagious, and make the Hole, a much better film than you think it's going to be.
