Morten_5 Nordic noir. This Danish-Swedish-Norwegian-German co-production is a fine example of the now world-famous genre phenomenon.Of course, many of the familiar genre traits are present, but it is a well-crafted and well- acted film. Based on the novel by Jussi Adler-Olsen and adapted by now-rising screenwriter Nikolaj Arcel, the film is shot by skilled cinematographer Eric Kress and contains some atmospheric music by composers Johan Söderqvist, Uno Helmersson and Patrik Andrén. Danish Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Swedish Fares Fares also work well together as the detective duo.
paul2001sw-1 'The Keeper of Lost Causes' is neither the first nor the last crime drama you'll see featuring a bad-tempered, middle-aged cop nurturing personal suffering and who plays by nobody's rules but his own. But it loses additional points for its ridiculous villain, with his implausible motivations and his Dr. Evil-like plan to murder his victim, which predictably is foiled only at the final moment. The weird thing here is that the tone of the drama is down-to-earth, realistic, yet the crime is almost comically preposterous (and the story of how the hero uncovers the truth scarcely less so). It's definitely not the finest hour of "Scandi-Noir".
wilkinsonalan I am a mug for Scandinoir. Truly enjoyed the plot of this movie - as a previous reviewer has commented - you can see the literary devices in the manner in which the plot unfolds. It is amazingly photographed - and relentlessly damp and broody. Those long shots I linger on as I can see them as amazing stills in their own right. It is a fabulous thriller that is on a scale that just surpasses the potential observation that it could have been achieved as a television drama.I would be concerned that Hollywood would attempt to remake it, as it would be a waste of resource when the original is nigh-on perfectly formed.Going to be extremely difficult to live up to when the subsequent chapters arrive 'on celluloid'. Bottom line - so Scandinoir; so great if you enjoy taut, smart thrillers; so watch it.
samsamaellynch The Keeper Of Lost Causes is a Usual Cop Flick, Old Fashioned Can Say..But There's More To It.. The Story Begins With Carl Morck(Nikolaj Lie Kaas) a Homicide Detective Who Rushes to Hunt down Bad-guys Without Any Backup, Crime Scene Gone HAYWIRE .. Carl is Shot and Worse to Follow, He is Banished to a New Department Known As "DEPARTMENT Q" Located at the Basement.Carl Feels This Job is for The Retired Folks and shows his distress for his Position.Carl Keeps a Stoney Face for Almost 95% of The Movie. He Dislikes His Assistant Assad at Department Q.. Moreover He HATES the coffee Prepared By Assad.. At Department Q The Duo Will have to Review and Close The Cases..Carl Hooks Himself To a case about a Woman Who Vanished 5 Years Ago. And the Only Witness Is Her Brother who is Brain Damaged.. Carl Feels Its Strange and Reopens The CASE WITH HIS ASsad.. I Don't Want To Reveal Too Much in Regards With The Story line.. What Unravels Next Forms The Story. The Climax is Shot Well.. Tension Shown is Absolutely Great. Cop Instincts To Watch Out For..... Carl and ASSAD Now Team Up To Put Up A Cop Show Blending A Dark Version OF 22 JUMP Jump Street and The Other Guys And NO ROOM FOR Comedy.. Cinematography and Screenplay is to be appreciate.. Scandi noir is famous for being very mean and lean.. SO WHAT-ELSE TO EXPECT. The Keeper of Lost Causes is a Routine Usual Cop Story With Some Very GOOD Twists and Moments..
