This film doesn't reflect the truth. It just a fantasy. This film only a reflection of the orientalist point of view of Europe to the Eastern civilizations. Seljuck Empire was published in1037, Nishapur. After that, The capital of the Seljuk Empire moved to Rey in 1043,Isfahan in 1051,Hamadan 1118. Ibni Sina died 1037,Hamadan. This is just one of the historical mistakes I wrote. Also Seljuk's were speaking Turkish. They were used Arabic language of law, theology and science also court language Persian. Visual effects is nice. Actors are very talented but story line is awful. I respect to the different point of view, but if you want to write movie scenarios you should investigate the history well.

It's a real falsification of history , ibn Sina the greatest physician of all time didn't commit suicide, nor lived in asfhan, and all historical events mentioned here was never happened, I wonder why the writer chose a real hysterical character to build his storyline, he could have chosen any character and it would have been the same, but to mutate such a great character like Ibn Sina, it was a shame The film was meant to reflect a political message, which is OK to represent a certain view whatever we agree with it or not , but it needs to be honest with your viewers as most of the people are not history educated. The scene of Ibn Sina working as an assistant for the young British barber is a total insult for a great character , Ibn Sina was named the chief physician, and his books were the main reference for medicine for more than 7 centuries.

VERY VERY loosely based on 'Medicus' by Noah Gordon, a book I read twice and which I love very much. Other reviewers have already spoken about the historical inaccuracy of the movie so I will not go into details. I don't like it either, BUT, if you consider this movie a fantasy tale set in a medieval-like world, it's a wonderful compelling story with well written characters and great actors. I decided to forget the movie was based on a book I love and that it was supposed to be set in a particular moment in real history, and I enjoyed it very much. I also fell in love with the Shah, a character that you are brought to hate and despise in the beginning and that you love and admire in the end (when he closely resembles the Asian version of Aragorn oh my God what a man). I loved Ben Kingsley's performance and the way Ibn Sina was portrayed despite the historical inaccuracy, the scene of his death included, very poetic and moving. I tend to like movies with my heart and soul as well as with my mind, and since I cared for the characters and in the end I was moved to tears, I give it a 9/10
