icebuscus1314 The novel, written by the brilliant Ted Dekker, had kept me reading from cover to cover. On the other hand, the movie has taken away a lot of what the novel had going for it. The actors did not fit the characters at all, and so much of the story was taken out of it, replaced with details that weren't nearly as good. If you are a fan of the book, the only good thing about the film was the ending (How Sam, Slater and Kevin are all one person). If you watch the movie, not as an adaption, but as a short, fun suspense- thriller, it is an alright flick to watch. But if you're looking for a thorough adaption of the book, just hope that Christopher Nolan has the guts to make an adaption.
Cleo Sombra The reviews will lead to believe that this is a bad movie. Maybe you will dislike it. But if you take their opinion alone, you are seriously missing out.To sum it up quickly, the movie revolves around a guy who is being stalked by a killer. The killer leaves him vague riddles and short time limits to solve them. The story is a lot more detailed than I can really explain, but it is not confusing to follow. I would like to point out now that this is not a horror movie. If you are looking for blood and gore and nothing else, then move on. But this is definitely a suspense "hold-your-breath" thriller. Because I accidentally read some spoilers before watching the movie, I already knew what was going to happen. But I still sat at the edge of my seat, wide-eyed and excited. This is a psychological thriller to the max.Yes, this is a movie with Christian undertones, but for those of you who are turned off by that, don't be. Most of the religious blah blah dissipates in the first 10 or 15 minutes. Overall in the movie, I didn't think there was a lot of overdone religion in it - though just a hair less of it would have made the movie better. As a horror fan and a thriller fan, I think you should really check this movie out. Don't expect gore and blood and you'll love it.Despite the negative reviews on here, give the movie a chance. You'll thank me.
NatiballaAKADaShotCalla Entertaining and worth watching but...A watered down, less enthusiastic, crappy acted version of roughly ...20 % Fight Club (Ending) , 20% Se7en (Format), 20% Saw (Antagonist), 20% The Ring (Day 1,2,3), and 20% Identity.Well the 1/5 each things are exaggerated but you catch my drift, the book may have been original, but the film utilizes and copies too many styles previously established by much superior films. It is semi-creepy however.Watch it, just to see all the pieces of the other movies come together to create disappointing trash!
iantm My wife and I are big fans of horror, suspense, and action/adventure movies. This film provided none of the above. According to netflix, this was a "thriller". I'm a very nit-picky person who notices everything - be it a plot hole or a minor little detail. As for being filmed in Poland - I had that feeling five minutes into the film. Unlike the Machinist (which was filmed in Spain, but took place in the USA), the different filming location did nothing other than add a layer of confusion. Due to being filmed in Europe, I can only imagine that the film makers had a very limited supply on American cars, such that you'd often see the same car in different places in the same scene (red infiniti j30) or in odd situations (the same red infiniti as a police car). When and where the film took place also confused me - none of the cars had license plates from the same state (saw Maryland, Georgia, and a DC plate) while the signs for the police department appeared to have been lifted off the set of Law & Order. Then there is the "twist" that I saw coming a mile away. As soon as I saw it - I was hoping the villain would actually be someone other than the main character. The Fight Club alter ego twist is one that is hard to do right - see Hide and Seek for another example of this concept gone horribly awry (albeit unintentionally hilarious). The utilization of the concept of Saw, with the voice from Saw, but without the creativity also made matters worse. With the main character freaking out about their dog (whom they claim to have not seen in years) and trying to save it (while trying to instill fear) was hilarious if anything. No offense to dog owners - but if someone threatened to blow up a dog I haven't seen in years - I wouldn't exactly be going out of my way - it's a freaking dog. My wife was trying to convince me that it was a person, but when it was revealed to be a dog - well that killed it for us.Unless you are a big fan of Mr. Dekker's work, have read the book, enjoy watching gratuitous poorly done explosions, or enjoy unintentionally funny movies masquerading as suspense - I would say to avoid this film. To sum it up, It is Saw with the fight club twist edited down for a G rating.
