george-43710 Don't get me wrong, it's not the worst movie I've ever seen. But the high rating amazes me, so i had to give it a 1 to balance it out. I wanted to watch it months ago and i kinda wish i didn't. As a note, i watched it with the original Spanish dubbing (with English subitles). First off, as many said, the entire plot of the movie is based around unbelieveable scenarios. The fact that the main characters acts like that makes the loop going and it's not that hard to figure it out, more so when he tries to kill his other self (?). The moment when he wrapef his bandage around his head was the moment the movie died for me. It felt like everything from then on was just dragged out the movie. All the twists, if you can call them that, were seen coming from miles away, so there's that. Secondly, who decided to make the main character feel like a zombie? Every time he had a choice he took the bad one, EVEN KNOWING WHAT WOULD HAPPEN BEFOREHAND. Why travel a second time, why kill the forest girl? Nothing makes sense. 1\10
bubble bobble David Cronenberg was going to remake this. I don't pretend to know what transpired then, but I imagine he stopped himself because he realized he really just wished he had made it FIRST. The concept is so simple, and the turmoil produced slides into anxiety so neatly, it's very easy to wonder why this isn't shot in black and white, starring Bela Lugosi, Peter Lorre or -- EHEM! -- Claude Rains (visual comparisons to 'The Invisible Man' notwithstanding). An instant classic. It remains my personal favorite among time travel films.
ejamessnyder Timecrimes is the best time travel film I have ever seen. Admittedly, I've never been a huge fan of the genre. I often find them silly and too unbelievable. I understand that the viewer has to suspend disbelief in order to appreciate a time travel movie, since time travel is not a reality in our world, but I feel like so many time travel movies involve the absurd aspect of an individual gaining information from his future self, who had only gained that knowledge which he was then able to pass it on because he had already learned it…from himself. It was fine in Bill and Ted when their future selves taught them how to play their instruments, because that was a dumb comedy. They only put that in the movie because it was so stupid that it was funny. But I've been seeing it in so many serious movies lately and it makes me sick. But Timecrimes is so well done and so well acted that it never feels contrived, although it very much is. It's a fun, fast-paced, suspenseful thrill ride that's complex enough to keep you thinking and keep you guessing but easy enough to follow. And the setting and the unsuspecting characters are very fun and feel like they're out of real life. These are not the people or the places that we'd expect from a time travel film. They're the characters and the setting that would perhaps feel more appropriate in a boring drama film. And at the start of the movie they're all set up and ready for their drama, but then things take a turn when one of them stumbles upon a time machine.I realized after the first fifteen minutes that I was going to enjoy the movie. Halfway through I realized that it was one of the best films I'd seen in a while. At the end of the movie, as the credits were rolling and I was smiling uncontrollably, I realized that the movie I'd just watched would stick with me for a very long time. I would go on to watch it again and again.I don't like happy endings in movies, especially when they feel fake. And sad endings are just depressing. The ending of Timecrimes is neither and it's both. It's a good, perfect ending and it's totally unpredictable. For the past few years I've been hearing reports of a remake. I hope that never happens. Timecrimes is perfect just the way it is.
Leofwine_draca Having proved their worth in the horror genre (with recent gems such as REC and THE ORPHANAGE), the Spanish now show their hand at the science fiction genre as well, with pleasing results. TIMECRIMES is one of those low budget movies, made with a small cast on a small set, that it's best to go in knowing little about. The main thing is that this film's all about time travel, with all the mix ups, problems, and situations that arise when a couple of characters are given free access to a time machine that can transport people a few hours into the past. There are plenty of horrific undertones as this film begins; a family man's seemingly straightforward day turns into a nightmare when he stumbles across a beautiful girl in the woods, naked and apparently dead. Soon he's being chased by a masked psycho, and then the science fiction stuff comes, and the film gets really good. The rest plays out full of twists and turns while at the same time keeping the suspense bubbling along nicely. An unknown cast work wonders, with Karra Elejalde particularly efficient as the every day kind of guy losing his mind at the time travel hijinks, and Barbara Goenaga particularly lovely as the unwary cyclist caught up in the mess. Round this out with a good director and great script and you have the kind of B-movie that's far better than many similar A-list offerings.
