Reviews

treymurdock This movie was amazing!! it had comedy, action, a love story and of course great basketball. It focuses on the merge of old school and new school on a mental, physical and philosophical level while still being light hearted. I would highly reccomend. Avoid basing your decision on a few bad reviews cuz its worth seeing for yourself (that applies to all movies you hear about or consider watching). My wife and I went and we had a blast. You should also have a general love or knowledge if basketball to truly enjoy this film
tuksakat Worst movie of the year. really cringe-worthy. don't waste your time on this thrift store discount bin movie.
Neil Welch A convoluted backstory leads to short chubby Dax recruiting old Uncle Drew and his team of fellow geriatric players to take part in a basketball tournament. This film ticks the following boxes - "sport", "comedy", "black". It also ticks the box "annoying noisy principal characters." And, for anyone who has seen Karate Kid, Rocky, or any other film featuring underdogs in a sporting scenario, it contains no surprises whatsoever. But it's always heartwarming to see the underdogs battling against the odds - in this case an annoying but funny Nick Kroll. It does feature some well known basketball players under prosthetics and wigs as the retired players. None of them can act to save their lives but, at that, they give better performance than a number of the non-sporting performers. Lil Rel Howery as Dax heads the list here with a performance of extreme annoyingness.
Hellmant 'UNCLE DREW': Three and a Half Stars (Out of Five)The hit sports comedy starring NBA legend Kyle Irving as the title character, based on a role he played in Pepsi Max commercials (in 2012). The film also costars former NBA stars Shaquille O'Neal, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson, and former WNBA star Lisa Leslie. Lil Rel Howery, Tiffany Haddish, Nick Kroll, Erica Ash and Mike Epps also costar in the movie. It was directed by Charles Stone III, and written by Jay Longino. The film tells the story of a group of elderly former basketball players who enter the Rucker Classic together, to recapture their glory days, with the help of an outcast loser coach. It's gotten mostly positive reviews from critics, and it's also a modest hit at the Box Office as well. I enjoyed it mostly. Dax (Howery) is a bullied and broke coach, who's still haunted by a game he blew years earlier. His longtime rival, Mookie (Kroll), steals Dax's team and his superficial girlfriend (Haddish). Then Dax meets streetball legend Uncle Drew (Irving), and he convinces the former basketball star to enter the Rucker Classic with him. The two go on a road trip together, to collect the rest of Uncle Drew's old elderly teammates. The movie is mostly amusing, from start to finish. It's definitely not hilarious (in my opinion), but it's always at least mildly funny (and amusing). The characters are likable and all worth rooting for (except for Kroll and Haddish obviously), but the film is extremely formulaic and unoriginal too. I'd still say it's mostly worth watching though, especially if you're a basketball fan (which I'm not).
