dworldeater Used Cars is an early comedy cult classic by the team of writer Bob Gale and director Robert Zemeckis. This film is also produced by John Milius and Steven Spielberg. All of these people I have just mentioned are some of the most talented(and successful)to have worked on films in Hollywood and are responsible for several blockbusters and classic movies. Kurt Russell is on top of his game as Rudy Russo, a crooked, but charming used car salesman that is about to expand his skills to a greater calling, politics. Used Cars is a very wild and raunchy comedy, but with heart, great writing and great characters. The cast is outstanding in this and has some really hilarious and excellent performances by Kurt Russell, Jack Warden doing double duty as the feuding Fuch brothers, Frank McRae, plus Lenny and Squiggy and Grandpa Munster. Used Cars is very original and smart comedy that is totally unhinged and balls out. Used Cars is a great comedy that I discovered later on and in my opinion this is one of Kurt's best films and in my opinion, this film and Kurt's family comedy classic Overboard. are just as good. However, both films are very different and Used Cars was strictly made for adults.
Mr-Fusion A comedy written by the guys behind "Back to the Future" and featuring Kurt Russell? I'm in. And a no-nonsense exercise in sophomoric humor, it is (which isn't a bad thing).Russell plays the sleazy used car salesman to the hilt, showcasing some admirable comedic chops (as well as a gift for physical comedy). And Jack Warden is hilarious in the dual role of the Fuchs brothers, giving a delightfully nasty performance as the scheming Roy L. Fuchs. But Frank McRae easily steals the show with his random tirades and misfit sense of humor. Chock full of frivolous profanity, topless ladies and sight gags, "Used Cars" shows a cynical sense of humor on the part of the writers (Zemeckis, Gale) and feels like something John Landis would've done (with an "Animal House"ian ending). It's cheap and sleazy, and makes no apologies for it. And the laughs come naturally. 7.5/10
gwcohn-2 The movie is a screamer. It has all kinds of inside jokes but the one that caught my eye was when "Lenny & Squiggy" uplink the commercials to the satellite.During the early '80's, many cities had HBO transmitted via microwave to the subscribers home. It didn't take long for the techno-pirates to figure out how to build a pirate antenna. The antenna that L&S was using as an uplink was one of these pirate antennas! A lot of the scenes for the movie were filmed at a used car lot in Mesa AZ.I saw this at a local drive-in but had to tape it when it came on HBO. I now have the DVD as the commentary alone is worth the price.
mouljran1 as my business is used cars export from japan i really liked this movie.its nice to see a good movie with a good plot with good acting and a bunch of cars (although they're not in good condition) that you rarely see on the road cause I'm a lover of the cars from the 60s and 70s, if you're in a mood for a good comedy, then don't forget to watch used cars and you can get this at a really good value on DVD. nothing deep here. just sit back and enjoy. i gotta believe jack warden and kurt russell really were used car salesmen at sometime in their lives. used cars is a truly funny movie, typical of early 80s comedy. the plot line isn't anything too special, and the movie isn't anyhting that you would rave about, but it is a very memorable movie that one who likes comedies of the time period would enjoy. i have seen this movie about 5 times, its always funny, hey its on TV as I'm writing this. good movie, enjoy. www.japanbestcars.com
