Hot Potato So, so sorry, I can't tell you if I agree with the premise of this movie or not. I couldn't, I just could not continue, so I don't know if telling you that if the movie is pathetic is a spoiler or not, maybe that was the point. You can prove quite simply that negative equals positive or that up is down or whatever contradicting premise you wish, simple or complex. You can just bend it or you can turn 90 degrees or 180 degrees or you can go back to where you started. Rhetoric is rhetoric. I am afraid I could not bare to stick with this movie long enough to see what the double talk concluded. It was too much of an insult to even low intelligence. It seemed an attempt to say, If I generally agree with most of your points? Am I supposed to agree with your premise? or your conclusion? Don't think, just agree. I've been down that road far far to many times in my life. I don't care if I agree with them or I disagree with them, this is not to me a means of intelligent conversation, or even a one sided conversation.I remember when I was still very very young, I didn't care anyway, but John Birchers use to do this. I still don't know what they were proving, but it was so simple I had far more fun turning their logic around against them.Well watch this if you are part of a flock of sheep, if you must.
SaltSlasher I personally think what they teach in this movie, is stuff that should be taught to everyone. There should be a mandatory "Mythology" class that teaches you this stuff. Luckily I had such a class, and had a teach who spent a whole semester reading us all the tales in High School, from Pandora's Box to Prometheus to Jesus. Of course you need to research everything to help give you a better understanding of the material, this kind of subject can land you in 2-4 years or research to fully understand everything, cause this covers a lot of info but doesn't get super deep. But the essential fact is were all shrouded in lies from Jesus to Easter. I know many people who are just happy, sane and just go with the Christian Flow. As for everyone else, who wants to seek truth, this is a good stepping stone for your quest, if your into this kind of thing.I say this is a Da Vinci Code type of Audience, or Holy Blood Holy Grail. Even though I think the information is great, there is still a lot to do once watching the film, if you really want to know the secret to history.Remember for every story there is at least two sides, and everyone has an opinion. You'll find many Christian based theories to be opposite of what a rational scientific opinion would be, like what you learn on this movie.
danstalker True premises (with some exceptions)+ False conclusions = INVALID argument This is the dream material of a teacher trying to exemplify logic traps and intellectual manipulation. The Single Effect Logic Trap is frequently used but a trained eye can identify many other traps. The leftist bias is overt and overwhelming neighbouring partisanship. All history teachings are ignored with the insolence that only true ignorance can spawn, however, I suspect is actually a fake ignorance. The high score is testimony of today's education level and a good measure of time dedicated to reading in our society.Just to be clear: I am not wealthy myself and I agree that extreme inequality is "toxic" for a society. I also agree that the society values and goals need a profound reevaluation, which is probably a perennial truth regardless of the societal paradigms of the moment.
saymonja-148-363330 The first time that I watched this movie, I liked it, for the most part. When I returned to watch its predecessors, my opinion of the whole project diminished quite a bit. The reason: the simple presentation of "facts" which are dumbed down, reinterpreted like so much religious dogma, and presented in flashy, attention grabbing packages. This is the sad state of the transfer of "information", from Fox News, Xinhua, and other corporate/state outlets, to those with whom I tend to sympathize, such as Michael Moore and the makers of this very documentary. The idea that facts alone are not enough for viewers anymore, that they must be duct-taped together and peppered with sensationalism and explosions, angels and demons, reflects pretty poorly on our society and the state of its ability to think critically without the crutches of mainstream or underground media. Just like Zinn's book, A People's History, the hard facts, primary sources and easily researchable quotes are supplemental to what we have been indoctrinated with, and they ALONE are terrifying enough to warrant a critical reevaluation of everything that we have accepted about the world. And just like Zinn's admirable work, the "solutions" offered and shameless political bias serve to drive an immediate wedge between this work and the "unconverted".My second issue: the solution itself. I agree that world trade, on the scale that we have come to rely on by no accident, is unsustainable and pointless; but once again we have one more perfect cure-all coming from those most noble Western ideologues that brought us capitalism, totalitarian communism (and that extinct specimen that we called "democracy"). Yes, ye unenlightened masses of the Rest of the World, we have the solution for you. Leave your petty and foolish and primitive cultural nuances at the door, and step into your new, self sustaining, sterilized cubicle. You'll never have to leave your town ever again for anything. Your desire for variety will be replaced with the eternal happiness of bounty and wealth, and you'll have nothing left to need. Your spiritual conceptions of the world have all been negated as harmful and divisive, because we have interpreted them for you as such-because OUR spiritual world views brought and propagate war and proselytizing, you are only allowed faith in science. Upon seeing those models, I couldn't help but think, why the hell would I want to live there? What about the beautiful renewable, terraced, rice-growing hills of China, or the sculpted fields of Tuscany? Our choices are sterile towers or factory farms?
