Reviews

Carina Ullberg I have just finished looking season 5 episode 16 and my thought was "Oh, but ... what ... I want to know".I liked Covert Affairs, I liked the acting - well almost everything. It was a series with after thoughts, action, romance, sorrow, some sex ... well it had about everything you can expect. I do become a little displeased with the fighting scenes. Why did all the men tried to strangle her? Every time? Isn't that a very difficult way to take out a opponent? Did the director have some special hangup with strangulation? Or is it consider special with a man strangle a female? Is it sexy or what? In my eyes it just is dumb. It is one of the first thing you learn to cope with if you have trained just a small amount of jujitsu for example - escaping a man trying to strangle you. And why should not a CIA-agent know those very simple thing ... They should be able to do something better than letting every man try to strangle her.And the heals? And the sound of the heals when she is trying to sneaking toward a room or in a stairway? That is not very truthful is it? And when she did fight wearing high stilettos, why did she not put the heal in the opponent? There was a lot of action flaws in my opinion but some how I really liked it. It was entertaining, thrilling, funny, sensitive and sadness (crying) - Yes, I do liked the series and I am a little sad that there was no more season.A question - does the spy earn that much money so they have afford those shoes and those clothes? I don't think those are very cheap :)
ariel-57331 Contains Spoilers. This series can be entertaining and intriguing at times. Christopher Gorman seems to have been awkwardly inserted into several plot lines that don't ring true including the romantic relationship with Annie mid way through the series. They abandoned that one and then several odd romances for Augie and then his abduction in Season 5. I don't know if he pushed for more direct involvement in the show, but these all seem very contrived. Other weaknesses include: a paucity of character development for Annie Walker! She seems to make the same mistakes over and over again. Why can't an agent move through her work without a new romance in every port? Not sure. Also, unsure as to whether they didn't follow the obvious romantic choice of Oded Feyr (Eyal) as these two had clear chemistry and it is never clear why Annnie does not go for him? We have no clue as to why she would prefer Ryan as we never get very deep inside Annie's head, except that she is 100% dedicated to her job.
bjarias A 'covert' agent looking like a medium-sized supermodel, with (of all ludicrous things) a blind guy as her genius CIA sidekick.. it's as far from reality as you can get. And where did they come up with some of the chase-music (at times distracting and downright annoying). And why were they compelled to shorten every scene (even the good ones) to less than 90 seconds, it gets most tedious when streaming episodes. All that being said, it is now into a fifth season (16 episodes.. and with declining viewership, maybe its' final one). MI-5 it ain't.. the sole reason it is still around at all is Piper Perabo. Like her or not she IS the show (garnering it's one award nomination). Coyote Ugly got her recognized.. CA has given her the high visibility most all actors dream about. It will be interesting to see where she goes from here.. and how they decide to finish up this production. The measure of a truly great series is one you cannot stop yourself from streaming episode after episode, and you must watch every minute of each and every one. CA is at times barely tolerable, and definitely does not fit into either of those two categories.
ElessarAndurilS Covert Affairs is a show that starts interesting and with each season grows in it's entertainment and level engagement as the story line deepen and grow. Half way through season 5 I'm updating this review and my rating as season 4 took to a level few shows achieve with me. I like how they've taken us with a novice CIA agent at the beginning who gets progressively better with each season with her starting as a talented rookie she quickly raises her stock to a driven professional who has gone dark and from not carrying a gun to plugging the bad guys with regularity, and satisfaction (mine). The depth and intensity of the story grows right along with the character such that by the beginning of Season 4 each show is leaving me at the point where I can't stop and need to see the next episode to get more answers. Since I am streaming the show this only presents the problem of burning through the episodes to fast and being left without a favorite show to watch sooner than I would like. Bottom line is if you like an spy based action adventure then give the show a chance and I think you'll enjoy the ride. It has flaws, but the purpose is to entertain and engage and with each additional episode it does just that at an increasing level. Unfortunately season 5 lost its way and the apex of the show turned out to be the season finale for season 4. At that point there was a wonderful plot just laying there for Annie to return to Augie and move upward and onward. Instead they changed the formula and destroyed the show. What more evidence is needed than barely caring to watch the end of season 5 and having it cancelled shortly thereafter. Sad to see so much potential wasted, would be happier to have had it shut down after the end of season 4 and lived with what could have been than to see what they did to it. Still love it. Look at SOA, 6 masterpiece seasons with a final season that I couldn't hardly watch. Still think it is a great show, but final season killed it. Well in this case the writers in season 5 truly did kill it as it is officially cancelled which is what actually got me to watch the last 3 episodes. Sad when so much was there.
