aeasmmikey Poking around, trying to find something -- anything -- out there that interests us. We have stopped and started so many series; they either don't hold our interest (The Crown, Episodes) or they just aren't that good.So we stumbled onto this. It had been around a while, yet we had never, ever heard of it.we are halfway through the first episode. We said nothing to each other. Finally, there was a scene that was so bizarre, we looked at each other and said, "You ready to bail?" I was.The scene? When pampered, spoiled daughter gets mad at daddy because he says Cuckoo has to get a job. the whole family turns on daddy for this.Yes, i am aware that is the source of this "comedy" -- that the Andy Samberg character is so "out there" that we are all supposed to go along with the gag. It is just so stupid, the premise so infuriating that we just could not get into it.And people who say they were rolling on the floor laughing? What in the world were they watching? So then we skip ahead to see...does Samberg actually stay with this crap? SPOILER ALERT -- OF COURSE NOT. HE DIES OFF SCREEN AND THIS PIECE OF CRAP CONTINUES WITH HIS "LONG LOST SON." Holy moly -- so bad
xhidden99 I honestly do not know. I don't like Andy Samberg. In fact I hate Andy Samberg. I loathe everything about him. His approach to acting and comedy is to literally make your skin crawl with stupid unfunny garbage until you want to shoot yourself in the face at which point Andy wants to make you feel stupid for not being as alt hipster as him. In any case he's nailed it here. Cuckoo is a character you want see beheaded by ISIS. The rest of the cast and characters are good. Greg Davies is excellent. Helen Baxendale dies yeoman service in a fairly bland role and Esther Smith as the ditzy probably half retarded narcissist daughter and wife of uber slacker zoid Cuckoo is OK as a clueless spoiled princess brat. I just don't know though. Only a few eps in and I wonder where they're going to take it? Will Cuckoo burn the house down as his wife and mother in law cheer? Who knows?
dogonu-215-965738 The first season is excellent. The chemistry is great between all the cast members but after losing half the cast season two and three go off the rails in chemistry and writing. They ruin the whole premise of the show. The first season is a great funny series that works well and they should have left it at that. Instead they tried to create some off the wall story line where Cuckoo's son of some island girl comes back as a type of shaolin monk who falls in love with his step mother. Its too disturbing and not really funny. You may get a few chuckles here and there but over all its DOA. I thought it an American thing to try to keep a dead story going way past its sell by date but the brits have shown they can screw up a good thing as well as the US.
benedwards848 One of my all-time favourite comedies, Cuckoo makes you watch it with a smile on your face, at times makes you laugh uncontrollably but also creates real connections with the characters. Some of the lines are simply priceless, and still make me laugh days after the episode. Series one takes a couple of episodes to get going, but by the third of the series, the characters have all bedded in well and it reaches its potential. I would urge anyone who is unsure after watching one or two episodes to persevere. The second series is arguably even better than the first, with 'Tribunal' in particular one of the funniest episodes of anything I have ever seen. What makes this comedy great is the characters, who all complement each other perfectly. Greg Davies' performance as Ken is a highlight, and Adam Samberg and Taylor Lautner play their wacky, new age characters to perfection and without stealing too much attention, despite their fame.In conclusion, I could not recommend Cuckoo high enough, and would urge anyone to watch it.10/10
