Reviews

tanejanamita This is by far one of the worst shows I have seen. The plot had so much potential and I had some very high expectations when I started watching the show. I soon realized that the writers and directors had added all the possible twists and clichés in the book - happy go lucky dad, maniacal mom with a twisted love life, illicit affairs, pregnancy and miscarriage, teacher student affair and of course the ever heart breaking and tear jerking child abuse! You could tell the writers themselves for fed up and ran out of bold and beautiful ideas when in the last 5 minutes of the finale, the story fast forwards by two years and all problems seem answered and it ends abruptly without tying any loose ends.Overall very disappointing.
allanmarston1 I can't believe this show got canceled. Well I guess I can believe it as I never heard about it while it was on. So awful marketing by its producers. My wife and I have really enjoyed both seasons. The story line and the actors are great. Definitely worth getting into.I had never seen Any of these actors before and really like Britt Robertson. Excellent acting for the most part. Her beauty sometimes wrecks it for her though. Hard to imagine her in foster care at times.Shiri Appleby is beautiful and also does a great acting job. Both the male actors are really good as well. The only miscast in my opinion was the actress cast as Emma. The chemistry with Kristopher (Baze) was lacking I thought.
GeeaC I liked the idea of the dysfunctional family trying to fix itself along the way, with family members trying to grow and to better themselves. However, the writers failed to live up to the story's potential. It's very hard to like the characters and to root for them when all they do - episode after episode - is lie to each other, engage in passive-aggressive behavior and endless rantings, then get depressed and complain about how miserable they are and how everybody is against them. And the characters who should be raising our sympathy, the mother-daughter duo, are actually the most obnoxious ones, while the men in their lives seem to have resigned themselves with the role of "the whipped".
TombRaider09 Lux Cassidy (Britt Robertson) finds herself in one of those quirky situations, where Fate is clearly laughing at her maliciously. Or so it would seem in the beginning anyway, as Lux seeks for emancipation from foster care at the age of fifteen. Not everything goes as planned as Lux is assigned to the care of her newly discovered biological parents, whom are even loss grown up than her, the father, Nate Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha) spending his time partying in a bar he owns and her mother, Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby, of "Roswell" fame) being a successful radio personality, who is engaged to Ryan (Kerr Smith, of "Dawson's Creek" fame), yet suffers from critical commitment issues.Although Life Unexpected is about the unexpected happening, the show is at its core about Lux and Cate becoming a daughter and a mother, respectively, even though neither has much sense of what it entails. Lux is just as unadjusted to being told what to do (that is, being raised) as Cate is unaware of what it requires to tell someone what to do. As a series as a whole, Life Unexpected is a mature drama, which takes its time with its story lines, as present actions and past experiences leave long-lasting effects on its characters, which is quite a feat considering only twenty six episodes were filmed before the show's cancellation.
