Reviews

mst900 The series title is misleading as it has little to do with Agatha Christie if you are a purist, but it is entertaining enough for a quick break from reality. I love the sets and costumes in general; the setting is just post WW2. They did not have Botox and filler back then. A number of the female characters are pumped full of the stuff as their eyebrows are situated so high and arched on their foreheads and their cheeks so round and full, they have that all too common permanently surprised or even pained clown look that many celebrities have today. Unfortunately, the art of acting with a natural expression that includes facial expressions is becoming a lost art.
archi-5 I do like the new Partners in Crime and the actors, but I have a couple of reservations. In the first show it was amusing that Tommy was so slow and unaware, but by the 2nd show, N or M, it was becoming disturbing that he was so clumsy in his reactions. Hopefully, if there are future episodes, he will become a bit smarter and not do things like getting his uncle shot. I do like the fact that he is not, as in previous incarnations of this series, so arrogant.I did have a problem with N or M in that we never find out why the scientist handed over his bomb. Was he being blackmailed? And why in section 2 of that program when Tommy and Mrs. Sprout are in his bedroom at the hotel and she calls him Mr. Beresford did he not react? Was it just another instance of him being slow on the uptake or was it a mistake that no one working on the show caught?
Absalom1991 I thought people must be viewing the show through too-high expectations, given the harsh comments, but by the end of the first overly-long, ponderous, sappy, unimaginative, wandering episode. End this shameful and inept mess and spare good actors the torment. And spare good audiences at the same time.It was as if the production team was doing a high-school film project. Poorly constructed scenes, silly dialogue, some of the silliest music I've heard in years - one could have used it for silent- film backgrounds, it was so simplistic - and an understanding of character that suggests the writing team and director was autistic.Again, end the show. Perhaps it's done after the first year and I haven't seen it. If so, good.
trishyoung-220-917402 I am enjoying "Partners in Crime" very much. Tommy(played by David Williams) is a naive stumbler, but his wife Tuppence(played by Jessica Raine) is bright, sharp and determined to get to the bottom of an evolving mystery. We are starved for British TV (here in the colonies)and are inundated with American shows. To discover this gem is terrific. Although Jessica Raine is excellent as usual, David Williams could be replaced by a lump of bread dough! He was the wrong choice for this part, he needs to be wittier, funnier, more charming and thinner. The other actors are good, but without the acting abilities of Jessica Raine, this show would be mediocre. Where is David Niven when you need him?
